View Full Version : RX-7.com exhaust
s13lover 01-26-2004, 05:20 PM I know this has been out for a while but I don't remember seeing any threads about it. It sounds good and is dyno'd at 21hp.

donald121 01-26-2004, 05:24 PM I think the 21 gain is with the midpipe. I have ordered my GReddy from my friend. I should get it at the end of the January. :D
RX8on19s 01-26-2004, 09:32 PM FYI,
Don't buy their O2 Simulator.....It does not work and the quality is very poor. Buy the 02 Sim from Casper Electronics. You will need this if you get the testpipe.
Jeff_pap31s 01-26-2004, 11:29 PM How do you know that it does not work? Did you try it?
XDEEDUBBX 01-27-2004, 01:10 AM but why do you need it for the testpipe?? does it just turn the check light on?
RX8on19s 01-27-2004, 08:32 PM Jeff,
Absolutely, I tried it and it did not work. I had to buy the Casper Electronics 02 Simulator and it worked like a champ. The one they sell works on some other cars, but not on RX-8’s due to its advance computerized system. After buying the product from them for 29.00, I found out that you can buy it from the manufacture direct for 20.00. The quality of the product is extremely poor. The Casper Electronics includes a solid protective housing which the one from RX-7.com does not. This is necessary to protect the delicate circuit inside. If want I can post a picture so you can see.
XDEEDUBBX,
I testpipe is great for those individuals how love to drive the RX-8 at very high RPM’s because it improves the exhaust flow. There is not point in putting on an exhaust if system if you do not increase the flow through the catalytic converter. Instead of buying a high flow catalytic (which still has a bit of restriction) you go with a testpipe.
graceflow 01-28-2004, 01:17 PM OK so I am new, but aren't testpipes against the law to have?
N20SA22C 01-28-2004, 06:36 PM so is ripping the tag off your mattress but they havn't hunted me down yet! I have done it in CA of all states for years, but yes its not legal. I had a friend who beat his cat out and welded a straight pipe through it so it retained the stock look. just an idea

Great analogy.....

Ya there ya go, you guys go ahead and listen to someone that had one bad experence.... Ive had Rotary Performance's O2 Simulator for about 5 months now and have had Zero Problems, Yes when they first started selling them there were 30 of em that were bad, this was told to them by the manufacturer. Tell them that your went bad and guess what..... They give you a new one.. WOW. Ive been dealing with RP online for about 6 years, a 79, 91 and 04 rotary , and have not one complaint.

That would be cool to post a picture so I can see. Do you have the midpipe from RX7.com? Is it too loud? Can you feel a performance gain? Can you tell me where to get the Casper 02 Sim? Much appreciated man!
:D
Jeff
Rx8Freehk 01-31-2004, 02:18 AM .............. I stand corrected.... mine failed today :( casper it is
Rx8Freehk 01-31-2004, 02:19 AM sooooo ahhhh rx8on19s....... where did ya get the casper? part # please :)
Jeff_pap31s 01-31-2004, 02:29 AM What happens when it fails?
Rx8Freehk 01-31-2004, 10:23 AM engine light comes on.... replace cat and old sensor... light went off
RX8on19s 01-31-2004, 11:13 AM Here is the info you guys requested.
http://www.casperselectronics.com
Checkout out the pictures of the two units. You be the judge....
RX8on19s 01-31-2004, 11:16 AM Casper Unit.....This one worked for me
RX8on19s 01-31-2004, 11:17 AM Here's the RX-7.com unit.....This one DID not work!!!!
RX8on19s 01-31-2004, 11:30 AM Rx8Freehk,
If your comment below is true, then that means they lied to me. When I installed the unit & it failed, I emailed them to report the issue. They responed back by saying they were not aware of any isssues & all of them have worked. Thats not cool.......
(((" Ive had Rotary Performance's O2 Simulator for about 5 months now and have had Zero Problems, Yes when they first started selling them there were 30 of em that were bad, this was told to them by the manufacturer.")))
Rx8Freehk 01-31-2004, 01:29 PM Ohhhhhh time to get Rocky on this here forum to answer some questions........ stay tuned
RX8on19s 01-31-2004, 02:09 PM Rx8Freehk,
I see you have the Greddy SP. Do you have a sound clip? I’m thinking of getting it but I’m worried it may be too loud. I like the way the Greddy sounds with a cat, but I have not heard it without one.
Please let me know.....Thanks
Rx8Freehk 01-31-2004, 02:28 PM well actually.. the clip at Rx7.com is with the midpipe, and sounds MEAN not too loud, thanks to the pre-silencer
Here it is (http://www.rx7.com/RPGReddyRX8exhaust/soundmovieclips.html)
Rx8Freehk 01-31-2004, 02:30 PM Oh ya could you by anychance hook up a part # for the o2 simulator? I cant seen to find ours on there website
-Thanks man

Thanks for the pics man. I'll def have to keep this in mind when I order it eventually. I'll have to have a chat with Rocky.
zerohour 01-31-2004, 07:55 PM Sorry to be a knucklehead here guys but can I ask if the RX7.com Midpipe has a silencer how is this being achieved? It it simply a another restriction on the flow of the midpipe. Kind of like how they put a tiny hole at the end of a 4 inch tip lol. Im confused, how does this work? What is the difference between this and a resonator? Will the silencer effectively give me more low to midrange torque at the expense of high end power?
Im sorry ive never gotten a mid pipe before i usualy keep my cats on but if im gonna get canzoomers stage 2 Ill have to do it right.
Any help would be appreciated!
RX8on19s 01-31-2004, 08:44 PM zerohour,
A silencer & resonator are almost the same. Their sole purpose is to remove that annoying pitch exhaust occasionally makes. Most of them are strait though so they do not restrict the air pass like a cat does.
I bought and installed the "vivid Racing" testpipe. I had to install a resonator on it to reduce the annoying pitch at high RPM.
The "vivid Racing" testpipe = $250.00
Resonator with Install = $60.00
Total = $310.00
RX8on19s 02-01-2004, 09:36 AM The part # is 104052.......
Rx8Freehk 02-01-2004, 10:53 AM thanks man, boy you can really tell the power difference when your forced to go back to stock cat :(
RX8on19s 02-01-2004, 03:08 PM I bet you can.....Now all you need is a little more fuel. I just ordered Ric Shaw's Piggyback ECU. This will allow me to modify my fuel & timing maps. This type of tuning is necessary to get optimal performance when you add Intake & exhaust.
tommy12g 02-02-2004, 12:36 PM Why did you go with Ric Shaw's as opposed to Canzoomers?
Rx8Freehk 02-02-2004, 12:39 PM good question, this is actually the first time ive ever heard of "Ric Shaw" and with so many testimonials to Canzoomers I question the decision to go against it .... (unless you know something we dont?)
:)
RX8on19s 02-02-2004, 05:11 PM Guys,
Let’s make this clear, I don't want to discredit anyone here. I'm just explaining why I choose Ric's Piggyback ECU.
Canzoomers mod is what’s known in the computer world as a BLACK BOX system. You buy it, don’t know what is inside, and you can’t make any changes to it. On the other hand, Ric's ECU comes with a tune, but it allows "ME" to modify the tune through Windows for optimal performance.
How is someone going to properly tune your ECU remotely? Everyone’s car is different. For example, I have the R/E intake & you may have a stock intake, these are all factors that have to be considered when tuning an ECU. This is the sole reason why you have to put your car on a dyno with an Air/Fuel reader “LM1”, and only then can you properly tune your car for performance. Any experience tuner can agree.
Canzoomers mod is great if you plan to keep your RX8 stock & if you aren’t really worried about getting the MOST HP out of your RX-8. For those of us who really want to optimally tune your cars & aren’t afraid of splicing our wire harness, Ric’s mod is definitely the way to go.
Rx8Freehk 02-02-2004, 05:22 PM OIC nice explination, And your right...... I dont want to splice my wires :)
