I took sound clips from three RX-8s and in the order on the sound clip they are:

1. Auto w/ K&N Typhoon intake
2. 6-spd w/ K&N Typhoon intake
3. 6-spd w/ K&N Typhoon intake and Borla exhaust

Thanks so much for that video , that is the best representation of all combinations intake/exhaust that I have ever seen on any message board.

Thanks for taking the time to put that together.

I am ordering my intake immediately.

Damn! I knew I should have ScotchGuarded that video. :p

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. Have you seen the flaming Borla video (http://www.vividracing.com/main/speedborla.mov) ?

Right now I'm working on a new video to show what it is like to drive an RX-8 with a Canzoomer Stage 1 fuel controller. So keep an eye out for that one.

Actually I only had the intake in for about a week. When I received my Canzoomer Stage 1 I pulled out the K&N intake because Maurice wanted to look into the K&N before he would recommend the combo.

Right after I installed the intake the car did have problems with idling but it seemed to go away after a days worth of driving. Hopefully someone who has used it more extensively will jump in and give their opinion.

when you pop your hood and look at your intake can you see your fan? did you remove the plastic tray that was under the stock intake? If you did remove that tray that may be causing the rough idle.

sounds awesome. i definitly like the K&N with the Borla. Its amazing the difference between the sounds from the front of the car and from the back...two totally different sounds!! I like it!

mikeb,

Yes, the plastic tray was left in place and the car had problems idling right after the intake was installed. The problem seemed to go away after the ECU had a chance to self adjust.

How long did it take for your idle to "fix itself" as you described?

I had my K&N on for almost a week but the idle was pretty rough on occasion and even caused it to stall once or twice. I checked and rechecked all the hose connections and found no obvious leaks. I did contact K&N and they mentioned that they have received a couple complaints about stalling with the Typhoon and RX-8.

The day after I installed the intake the idling problems were basically gone (i.e. it has stalled only one time since then).

is this stalling only occuring on 6 speed manuals? or also on the auto tranny?

I know that mikeb and my10ae both have the K&N installed on an auto. They should be able to tell you if they've seen any problems.

anyone have pics for the heat shield?

Speed Racer

Vivid Racing is supposed to get the optional carbon fiber heat shields around the middle of Feb. Maybe we can get Huff to post a photo?

The RX8 Store just received a shipment of new intakes that include an aluminum heat shield. Maybe Jason can post a photo?

Hi all:

I'm the first 8 in the video clip Spaed Racer put up. I have had not "real" problems with my intake. The car did run rough for the first 30-50 miles (ECU learning?) and now everything runs excellent. My 8 has never stalled on me since the install.

I would like to get the CF heat shield when avalaible from VR. I think it is the last piece to ensure no warm air from the radiator makes it into the intake. I did leave in my bottom air box tray...

Hmm. Other than the idle and low power manuever I hear very little differnce in the "test drive" full accelerations of borla vs. stock exhaust with both having K & N intake. ALthough some on here like the popping backfire, it is a side-effect I don't want.

The intake though makes a BIG difference.
