I've got a 2004 RX8 with stock HU, and I am adding a Alpine PDX1000.1 and a JL 10W7 10" Sub in the trunk and trying to figure out what would be the best way to go about this, aside from buying an aftermarket double-din HU with Metra Kit.

I am thinking about getting the JL Cleansweep to use as a LOC and to get rid of some possible EQ (I am able to get one a little over $100). But need to know if the EQ is done at the HU itself, or at the factory Amp.

JL announced on the Mazda 6 forum a while back that the factory Mazda 6 HU (Bose System) doesn't need the Cleansweep as the deck already produces a flat signal. With the Mazda 6, apparently all the EQ is done at the factory Bose amp, not from the HU. Does the RX8 factory Bose system work the same way?

Dunno about non-Bose but,

If you have the Bose system, the EQ is done at the Bose amp. The HU outputs a differential signal which is why you should use a LOC. you should NOT run the HU signals into the line level inputs of an amp - it's been shown that this can fry the HU given time.

Your wiring should go like so: tap in PRE Bose amp - LOC - your amp.

i would reccomend and active LOC - for one without all the gimmicks and fanciness, the Audio Control LC6/LC6i is ~$100 or so.

if you want a passive one, the David Navone NE-7V can be had much cheaper, I have one and found that i needed a line driver to avoid stressing the amp

talking about audio stuff makes me think more about a nagging i've had in the back of my head for a few months now... i've got the zenclosure box now with a kappa perfect 12. its fine and all except that i want my space back. i'm gonna be moving the battery to the trunk and i want to put a pair of 10's in the corners where the 4080 f-glass's go. put the battery/audio electronics/any future electronics(pc) where that box is now. put it all tucked away understep-shaped cover.

i dread the idea of working with foam & FG again - especially never using it in this manner before

According to the FAQ (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=211), it can be done by just tapping into the rear speakers (if they are full range), the master volume control will act as a sub volume control, and I'll still be able to use the HU volume control for the front/rear speakers.

What do you think?

sounds good, but dont tap into the speakers... tap into the speaker signals BEFORE it goes into the Bose amp, otherwise you'll get all kinds of crazy EQing from the Bose amp

I've had the JL Cleansweep installed and hooked up to the sub for a while now, and it pounds hard! In fact it's so loud that when cranked, it over-powers the factory speakers. I guess it's time to buy another another Alpine 4-Channel amp JL Speakers to replace the crappy factory Bose speakers and amp.

looking to do the same setup...quick question. since the jl cleansweep has front and rear inputs, does it really matter which you plug into since it will only be a sub? and which speakers did you tap into?
also i might install a crossover to the front speakers as there is WAY too much bass for a car door speaker in them and i fear the infamous rattling will pay me a visit.
