I came apon an article about this game on techreport.com and it seems that NFS is making a MMO that is free to play for anyone. I believe it is coming out sometime in the summer.

Man, I wish I had a PC at home up to spec to run this. I don't think my laptop will cut it.

I think they are going to use the same engine and a little bit of updated graphics. But if your laptop can play Carbon or Shift, then you probably can run this game.
