Is it possible to report someone if he is trying to scare you by following you around?

I got cut off by him when the two lanes merged
and i high beemed, so he stopped in the middle of the road
so I went around him
and he proceeded to follow me and high beem me
So I tried to lose him by making sharp turns (with my oh so slow 130hp of a fully-loaded mazda progete 5)
but he kept following me for like 15 minutes
i dunno why i couldn't lose him, even though he was in a jeep/suv
So I finally stopped at a gas station
cuz I figured he's a jerk and I shouldn't be afraid of him..
But he stopped following me and drove off
(probably thinking i'd tell the gas station attendant to call police)..

I didn't get his license number down, but if I did, would there be any way to report him or something?
I had a witness in my car, too, so that may be an advantage..
Most likely, I'm just gonna let it go and let God judge one way or another..
although something like this can cause a lot of emotional distress
so, I'm just a little curious...

Doesn't sound like you have much to report anyway.
2 lanes merged, he merged in front of you, you "high-beamed" him. For how long, I wonder, a quick "flash" or a long "F - U?"
Then he retaliated.
Your mistake was trying to "lose him."
That is how Princess Diana died.
If you are worried about someone following you, call 911 or drive slowly (to a police station), or carry a concealed weapon (if legal).
And don't get caught up in the false anonymity of your vehicle.
Use your horn, and high beams sparingly, especially at night when people are more likely intoxicated and impulsive.

Just my two cents.

Thanks a whole lot for the advice
and yes, it was a lonnng high beam
like 10 seconds
i know it was my mistake to listen to that evil voice in the back of my head
but thankfully I am over that now...

...I guess following people "worked" for him last time
and "worked" for him again this time
but one day he may come across someone who is not as nice as me.
God have mercy on him.

10 second "F-U" high beam doesn't sound very nice to me. :)
Maybe you're lucky HE was "nice".......

Sounds like he was just a coward who was afraid to actually stop and confront you outside of the car. He followed you because he knew nothing would happen, but once you stopped he drove off. Nothing to worry about here.

This one time a big ass truck cut me off, to the point where I had to swerve into the next lane, which ticked me off quite a bit. I didn't flash my headlights (it was the middle of the day), but I sped up to get next to him at the next light as we were both driving straight on. That f---er actually swerved into my lane again when I tried to pull up next to him, so I just backed off, called the police and reported his plate number.

The thing was he intentionally tried to swerve into my car. If he's willing to do that, who knows what else he would do? Now I'd just forget about it, not worth the risk. I just imagine getting killed in a road rage incident and the headlines in the local news. Not really the way I envision my life to end.

A while ago this guy did the same thing to me and when we came to a light he jumped out of his car yelling. He was 5ft4 maybe 130lbs. I got out of my car and asked him if he wanted to do the man dance but he was all bark and no bite.

The drivers over there in Miami are just crazy. Now I'm in Socal, but I grew up in Miami, so I go back to visit my parents. Last month I was there driving my parents' Hyundai Sante Fe, and I had to drive looking at the mirrors all the time. Actually, did you know that Miami was recently rated the 2nd or 3rd most stressful city (I forgot which). :)

Happened to me once here in Miami...I was in the proper SunPass lane for tolls going at a normal speed and this Tow Truck tried to pull the typical "haul a$$ to the front and cut someone off move".

I continued at my normal rate which didn't quite allow him to do this....I didn't speed up or slow down, just basically refused to acknowledge him.

So he had to get behind me and he honked, then after the toll booth he came around me and was gesturing, screaming, hands flying around, trying to cut me off...the whole 9 yards.

The moron failed to realize (or care) that he was driving a marked tow truck with a phone number on it. I dialed into his office with my cell phone, and the minute I started to explain the situation the guy cut me off and asked if it was Tow Truck # XXXX. Sure enough it was - the guy told me they constantly have problems with this dude and he wanted me to personally talk to the owner to explain what happened.

I did and the owner seemed pissed off that he kept having problems with this guy being a maniac on the road. Dunno what ultimately came of it but it felt good to actually be able to do something about it. I hope he got fired.

Cool story, but I have visions of the guy that took your call putting a hanky over the phone, disguising his voice, acting pissed, and saying "yah, I'll fire that SOB!"

Then calling his buddy and having a good laugh.

Tow truck drivers usually drive like jerks around here, and they (and therefore their bosses) make more money off their aggressive behavior. Although there is a "lottery" system here, not just the first come, first tow, they STILL act like that.

My wife and I were pulling into a left hand turn only lane when minivan pulled into my wifes car trying to get into the lane where we were. My wife gave her a quick honk to let her know that we were there and the lady just came right over forcing us to slam on the brakes. This lady then proceeds to flip us off in the mirror and she is obviously yelling and screaming. A gentleman sitting in the passenger seat says something to her and she just goes nuts and starts smacking this guy around. She had at least 2 kids in cars seats in the back and she is just yelling and screaming at us and smacking the crap out of this guy at the same time. Some of the funniest shit I've ever seen someone do in a car.

On a side note I imagine that if more people understood how many people (legally or illegally) carried a gun in their cars that road rage would be handled differently. Here in WA. where CPLs are legal you can use lethal force to protect yourself if you fear that your life is in danger. And my guess is that a motor vehicle could be considered a deadly weapon if that is how someone is using it. I pitty the fool who decides to threaten me in this manner if they take it too far.

If some one cuts you off the best thing to do is get their license number and call the cops. This way you don't have to worry about road rage and justice will be served (as long as you are willing to go to court). You have the right to file a complaint, if the judge believes you the a**hole driver will get a ticket and points on his/her license just as if a cop pulled them over and wrote them a ticket.

It's because of this type of logic (or illogic) we are fighting against a concealed weapons law in Missouri.

Just beacuase you had a bad day at the office, some guy cuts you off in traffic and you're gonna shoot him? I don't think the courts will see this as self defense.

OK here is what happened to my eclipse. Some jackass threw a rock through my windshield and destroys my roof 4000.00 dollars of damage done. I also had my tires slashed, my car keyed twice, sugar in my gas tank, and egged my car. All the damages all together cost me about 10,000 worth of damage to my house and car. These are the same people that were trying to screw up my 8 right before I left to go to Fl for school.

When all of this drama was happening I would get chased by about 5 cars all the time. I had to call 911 a couple of times. I also got blocked in at a dead end by everyone but thank god my brother had his truck.

Careless driving charges could be filed, but that is a two edge sword because

1-he can file them on you

2-he will know where you live!

I was doing about 80 on I-95 South to south beach last night. I was waiting for a dude on a bike to move out the passing lane. Some prick in a truck comes flying up behind me flashing his high beems.

The RX-8 breaks work really well. The truck had some obvious problems.

Geez, eclps0, you live in a nice area! :D

Would these happen to be hate crimes against you? Or does this type of thing just happen a lot in Davies, FL?

Well, I have been in that same situation, And the first thing I Dont like is when you haev a nice car, u get some bitch that has a piece of shit civic or something annoying, its never a respectable person. Thats the first thing. Secondly, (Im a very chill driver) I Was in a 3 lane road in Detroit cruising down the right late going about 50 in a 55, just cruisen (3 am) Coming out of detroit to metro detroit) I look in my rear view mirror, and notice a civic (type car) loaded with 2 or 3, (couldnt tell) people, (driving my brand new customized SVT contour. Just sharp as hell (black on silver) Beautiful (great sound and power) anyways lol i think i just got a hard on talking about it) Sigh

So back to the story..cruising out of detroit look in the mirror and this guy is flashing his lights...keeping them on forever (mind u 3 lane highway 3 am..NO CARS out..) shes driving behind me ass...(im not worried a bit) just chillen litereally..la la..so he does this for about 15 min....so then..suddenly.(hmm dont know why..) but i crack..and Im like you muther F#cker, I slam on my brakes, ( i figure go ahead and hit my rear you prick) But then I came to the realizatoin that my car is probably worth his life and lol of course..better than his ghetto beater..) so ya..anyways....so i do that once..the im like enRAGED..FURY so i speed up...on drop of a dime..hit the middle lane..and then pull a top gun..brake..he goes by I get behind him....like in a 3 second move..now i just keep my high beams on..BUT FAR distance..so if he wants to pull the brake trick..its not going to hit me...he switches lol lanes..I do it all the way into metro detroit..high beams on the whole time.

I notice that its only him and a passanger (cuz of my high beams looking thru his windows (un tinted) So im like..who is this ass..i gun it to the left lane. and look over..im like..oh god..please.. (my windows were tinted..DARK..u cant see in them.) im like..omg..come on...its him and his GIRL..or a girl...
so im like..your not worth my time. I need a challenge..so i just slow down and chill

Well to make a realllly long drive/story short..he continues to mess with me...
so I find a wendy's parking lot...he follows me in...
I stop...
he stops...
(i look into the mirror..just chill..half enraged but like..come on OUT you #@$#%$#) haha so i see his GF or whoever...urging him BACK into the car...well big KID comes out...sigh all 160 lbs of him. (unless hes Oscar D.) this is going to hurt him.

I get out...the kid....IMMEDIATELY...goes..man..u aint S%IT...ill f%ck you up. Then....Sigh he got back in the car and pealed out....and left..

hmmm I was actually waiting to pound his head into the wall..but it didnt happen. He was dressed in enyce type pants..bagging and wife beater sideways hat...lol.....

Anyways yeah he left..and I was pissed..
so at 4 am..I went home..and worked out LOL!!!

anyways yeah that my story..but sometimes..no matter how big u are...moral is...watch it..u dont know if they have a gun or what not..(especially detroit being NUMBER 1 in the nation for violence) ITs a nasty city. Anyways thats my 2 cents. watch it, (even though its hard to know when you will become enraged sometimes? lol) Bye guys..thanks for the interesting post.

Woah.. CM ...nice...uhh...story! Yeah, I am glad that dude didn't have a gun. People have been known to beat others to death out here in South Florida. There was one case on the news a few months ago. Sad...simply sad.
