View Full Version : Moonroof or not?

Has anyone seen the car live with the moonroof? I'm just curious to know if it adds to the coolness factor of the car.

I already opted for the Touring package beacause I did not want leather seats. But I've been observing the Mazdaspeed concept and noticed that it did not have a moonroof, thus showing the dip that the 7 had.

I really want the car for performance so the luxuries are not a priority for me. Does the moonroof add more or less weight and if so how much? I am now thinking that the sports package will do enough for me, saving that exta money to put into the nav.

My advice: put your money into NAV!

I have a dislike toward moonroof. I have it on my last three cars, but hardly ever use it. For me, it just needlessly compromised headroom and structural stiffness. So even though I preferred the look of two-tone leather, I didn’t like enough to get it with the moonroof. I ordered the RX-8 with just the sport pkg.

I like the natural light from the moon roof. (I'm not going to tint the windows)

I also like to get some fresh air without opening the side windows.

Good point, Good Duck ! Im just curious to see the final weight of the car. Also in a thread I read that orders had to be in by the end of the week. Is this true  ?

Anyone know wheter the moonroof tucks in under or comes out over the roof itself?

The moonroof tucks under not over the roof.

Thanks Zoom Zoom. Now I just have to decide whether to get one or not  .

Does the 8 retain the dip on the roof somewhat with the moonroof?

I love sun/moon roofs and I would be heartbroken if it were not available on the rx8. As far as the dip in the roof is concerned - I do not know for sure but I would guess that the dip is history with the sunroof option.

About the sunroof tucking in or going over the roof... Buger posted this link, and unfortunately it looks like it goes over if that actually is an RX-8 pic.

I wouldn't get a moonroof. It compromises rigidity and most people rarely use it.

Yeah.. I decided to go straight sports package. I like the fact that the dip on the roof (reminicent of the seven) is there when you don't have the moonroof. Going all performance on this car :D.

It's 65 degrees today in Dallas. (Jan. 19) I'd use it most of the year.

The bubble roof is still present with the moonroof! Tried to take a picture in Detroit to show the moonroof shape but the reflection was poor. The moonroof is actually curved on each side to match the bubble roof curves:D

http://www.snikte.net/images/safety05.jpg But that doesn't always mean that you can't install and "innie", if you don't mind losing a little headroom. When I got my Grand Prix, the $800 optional sunroof was an outtie for the same reason. But I got the car w/o the sunroof, and I had a custom job installed that was an innie, and lost minimal headroom. It was worth the extra $400 to get a much better setup (one-touch, etc.).

Depending on what you want, it is sometimes better to go aftermarket, just like with stereos and whatnot.

Weather permitting I use mine all the time; in fact I use mine more than the air conditioner.

For my taste, it doesn't appear to open enough to make it worth it.

It does not appear to open all that much. but it is nice to have on a nice warm day . . . hhmmm I think it would help resale value also, something to consider . . .
