View Full Version : where do you keep your cellphones?
i can't seem to find a place to temporarily place my cellphone or my pack of cigarettes and lighter when driving other than my lap...opening the center console is inconvenient since if it does ring, i'd have to open it up which distracts me even more from driving...placing stuff on an empty passenger seat ends up on the floor in the rear because of the hole between the seat and the backrest...
i'm thinking of buying something where i can stick the cellphone on in clear sight so i can just press the speakerphone button and talk freely with both hands on the wheel...
any suggestions?
93rdcurrent 01-23-2004, 10:16 PM The sunglass case if your not using it.
success07 01-23-2004, 11:33 PM Ashtray for me mostly, I think that it looks good there, especially at night when the red light shines on it.
tpryor 01-24-2004, 06:20 AM Mine stays in the belt clip, hanging from the opening in the door. I just clip it on, and it's available immediately, and I can get to it without looking down.
Sea Ray 01-24-2004, 06:50 AM Anybody else having problems getting your sunglasses in the holder? I have a nice pair of Maui Jims but it won't close, short of re-molding them.
The door idea for the cell phone is worth a try.
BRx8, sounds like a good time to quit smoking :)
tpryor 01-24-2004, 08:43 AM I keep the garage door opener in the sunglass holder, because none of my three pairs (1 Oakley, 1 SPY, and 1 generic from the mall for $5) of sunglasses will fit in the holder.
Currently, sunglasses are kept in the glove box.
red_rx8_red_int 01-24-2004, 08:46 AM I have the red and black interior, my wife bought me a clip on red and black soda can holder. It clips on to the center passenger vent and holds my cell phone very nicely (along with my parking garage pass, I hold it against the windshield when entering and exiting, the gate goes up automatically, no rolling down my windows). I'll try to take a pic soon.

My solution after long searching. Think it was like $6 at AutoZone.
Comes with a stick on for the car and a belt clip for me. (two of them shown)

6speed8 01-24-2004, 10:12 AM I took the ashtray (removable part) out, and my cellphone fits perfectly in that spot - horizontally. I use an earpiece and it all works/fits fine.

Yep - have a nice pair of Oakleys (smaller framed ones at that) that won't fit without some real effort. Given a choice between wearing the coating off the front of the lenses or just putting them in the console, I guess it'll be the console.

i went out and bought something quite similar, although nowhere near $6...i wasn't going to spend this much money but after seeing it in person, i just had to have it...it's a pretty cool looking gadget:

you can take the main piece and attach it to anything, a belt clip, the car clip, a chain, a clothing clip, etc. there's a bunch of different models:

if only it were that easy, my friend...
Magnesium 01-24-2004, 12:26 PM I have a belt clip with my cell phone. I clip it onto the emergency brake handle.
brawn 01-24-2004, 02:46 PM I have a small phone that will slide inbetween the lid for the ashtray and the center console as the lid is opening. so the spring holding the lid up for the ash tray is actually holding my phone against the center console. Works well unless your really pushing it down some awesome windy road--then it can be a bit of a distraction flying around.
Astor 01-24-2004, 03:05 PM mine fits nicely in the area between the two cupholders in the center console, I run the wire to the aux 12V through the little channel going into the other compartment if I need to charge it. I don't use the cupholders, they get in the way of the stick if you have drinks in them, and they won't close with even a 12 oz. can in them. If I'm expecting a call, I put it on vibrate and stick it in my lap.
VelocityRedRX8 01-24-2004, 03:52 PM I use a Belkin AudioDock (think that's what it's called). It sits in the cupholder, and holds my Nokia well. I use another AudioDock for my iPod, which is the dock's intended purpose. :)
hotpot 01-25-2004, 04:33 AM Here is a picture of my phone holder. The phone sticks to the holder by way of a magnet on the holder and a thin piece of metal that is placed inside the back cover of the phone. Works very well indeed. The holder has a sucker thing that sticks on any smooth surface.
B-Nez 01-25-2004, 06:59 AM My Armani sunglasses do not fit in the holder at all...but my phone does quite nicely. My phone fits in there so well, it often gets left there all weekend long :p

Irish_in_a_RX8 01-25-2004, 05:27 PM Hotpot, thats a great holder - where did you find it?
hotpot 01-26-2004, 12:16 AM I got it in Singapore for about US$9. Don't know if you will find it in the UK. The nice thing about it is the flexible arm which allows you to bend it anyway you want.
