Ok, someone w/ rotary experience educate me (this is the 1st I've owned but have had 2 in the family - an RX-2 and a 2nd gen -7). I can see the points at which the spark plugs are in each rotor, but up front where all the spark plug wires originate - is that our equivalent of a distributor (cap)? Sorry - still holding out for a service manual once they can be gotten.

Those are ign coils and they are fired by the PCM. The crank angle sensor reports the pos of the eccentric shaft.

Awesome! See, that's what I love about this club - someone always has the answer and is willing to help. Doesn't hurt that there are so many former rotorheads that have moved up the number line either. :)
