I was wondering if anyone had installed one of these on an RX8. It says that it will work on one, but that custom work will be required. I was wondering if anyone knows what is required to attach one onto an automatic transmission? I searched on this forum for Mishimoto products to see if anyone had posted info about it but all I found was info on their intakes (for the most part).

thanks!

you'd need to drill holes into the trans casing to get oil to go in and out.

and probably a pump.

You have 2 steel lines running from your trans to the radiator, depending on where you want to mount the aftermarket cooler, select one of the lines (preferably the return line )and fit one of the hoses supplied to the steel line and the 2nd hose supplied connects to the "out" on the radiator. If you cant locate a steel fitting that screws into the radiator, you will have to cut the original steel line and slide the hose supplied onto it, but remember, there is high pressure in these lines,be sure to flare the ends of the steel lines and use 2 or more hose clamps on each.Do not let debris enter these lines when cutting,or remove it and really clean it internally well.

You don't need a trans cooler.

If you're getting those kinds of temps racing.....you should be looking at different transmission options.

On the AT there is a trans cooler built into the radiator. You have 2 opitions on keeping your tranny temps down, 1- Order a BHR Radiator which has a performance radiator for the automatic transmission which includes a larger transmission oil cooler than the OEM offering. http://blackhaloracing.com/products-page/engine/cooling/ , 2- install a tranny cooler like the one you searched about. The better of the 2 options which happens to cost the most is the BHR Radiator.

Gee,lets see, should I buy a radiator from whomever and run my AT fluid alongside something that sees 200 degrees,or use a large independent cooler which is unaffected buy anything except cool air. I wonder why the engine oil coolers arent in the radiator.Man,some guys dont know shit from clay but like to give their "professional"opinion, where the heck does that bloke get the idea to drill the case and use a pump...

This has been my experience---that you do NOT need a trans cooler. We ran coolers on both of our race cars being careful to log temps and quite honestly (a), temps were not reduced by much with the cooler and (b) trans life was neither extended nor decreased.

Save your money.

And yes you'll need to tap into the trans case to install AN fittings.

Why is it imperative to use Army Navy fittings ?

Gee, might you want to consult those in the petroleum industry to see operating what temps the various fluids in our cars are designed to see and design a product around THAT particular paradigm?

It isn't and Mazda uses spring clamps for the tranny cooler hoses.

Which model are you referring to.? I assumed common sense would prevail, evidently not.
