I have long read about the oil thread. I have yet to see if there is any proof that thicker oil is better for the 8. I have been using 5w20 for warranty purposes only. I know many put 5w30 because its thicker and better in warm weather. I live in Montreal Canada it never goes above 30degrees in summer and gets freakn cold in winter. Would I actually benefit from switching viscosity?

I seen some threads of people with over 120k miles with regular 5w20 oil changes. My guess is that its really a hit or miss with this car and oil wont save a badly built engine correct?

thanks for your inputs

When you search, look for the oil chart from the Australian owner's manual. That answers a lot on this topic.

I have read most of the threads related to oil weight and premix and here is the conclusion: It is your decision. Some say that 5w30 is better (Mazda uses 5w30 in Europe but here due to the damn EPA Mazda changed it to 5w20) and some others say that 5w20 is fine. Some say premix some not. Search, read, gather the information, and then decide what might work better for you.

Mazda wont void warranty due to 5w30. I get mine put in straight at the dealer.
