Went to go there yesterday, and the subscription-service firewall blocked now blocks this Forum!

Morons.

I'm *gonna* find a way around it...

:D

See if you can get there via anonymizer.com, or if you're using XP at home, enable Remote Desktop and use the remote control client to surf from home. That second option also has the advantage that your surfing doesn't show up in your employer's proxy or firewall logs.

Me too, I sometimes block different sites just for fun.

How can I do this?

I know how to get to Remote Desktop, but don't know how to tell my Thin Client at work to look for my home desktop. What is the procedure?

I have nothing to do with this company. This is just a product I kept in mind if my Operater decides to become a BOFH.
Loophole software (http://www.loopholesoftware.com/?promotion=slashdot-20020822)

btw. Don't get fired over something as silly as wasting time reading these forums.

The internet nazis in your IT dept may be tracking your surfing habits. Let's be careful out there...

Edited my over-the-top language. Sorry.

Yeah, I know it's not worth getting canned.

They just use a subscribtion service from Websense. They're apparently blocking "clubs and forum" category.

So, change the name of this site to RX-8 News, then make a "news page" for P1, then it can probably get reclassified... and I'm in the clear. :)

RD would work, but they have that blocked too.

So how about changing the name of the site, making it a "news" site and getting websense to reclassify?

Anyone?

:D

There's a trick that you can do with the url of google that lets you visit blocked sites. Sorry I mentioned it, but if anyone knows this trick I'd like to know cuz I forgot

Try this: http://translate.google.com/translate?sourceid=navclient&hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Erx8club%2Ecom

I know how to get to Remote Desktop, but don't know how to tell my Thin Client at work to look for my home desktop. What is the procedure? I'm assuming you have broadband access, or have dialup but leave you home machine dialled in during the day, and that you have enabled Remote Desktop and opened up incoming traffic on port 3389/TCP on your firewall (forwarded to your PC's LAN addres if you have a hardware firewall router).

Next, you need some way of identifying your home machine's current IP address. If you have a static address, you can simply use the numeric form, but if you're dynamic, you need to look at some sort od Dynamic DNS service. I use TZO.com, which provides a small client piece that runs on my computer and constantly (every few minutes) updates the DNS so that eccles.tzo.net always points to my machine.

Now you simply need to plug that IP address or DNS name into the Remote Desktop Connection client on your work PC. The User Name and Password will be whatever you use at home, and you can tailor the other settings according to how you want to work and the speed of your connection.

BTW, to any would-be hackers out there: Don't bother trying to access my box - I have the port disabled while I'm between jobs, and when I am working I only enable it during specific times and for specific remote addresses. :p )

Normally, these language things (google translate) still don't work.

But it does now! :)

So I'm gonna ride it as long as it does... :)

Hey Irish, like I said at the restaurant today, we should have stolen a line from the rx7 club and walked up to your boss and said "the rx8 forum knows about you."

What a interesting idea. A company that actually expects it's workers to spend their time working instead of surfing internet forums. Sounds like evil big business taking it out on the poor worker again.... wasn't that one of the planks in Howard (meltdown) Dean's platform????

Finally a way I can help in this forum... I got suspended from my HS for a few days for leaking the work around and I made them miserable because of all the money my private school spent on their computer systems to block stuff on our wifi network (we all get our own brand new laptops as freshman, yes they spoil us but we do pay 25k a year!), the answer is very simple.... a proxy server... http://antiproxy.com/ for a list of proxys, some are slow some are fast its nothing like a direct connection but hey-- it works fine for me... If you need help setting it up let me know.

Also im a newb to many aspects of the RX-8 world, and I should be a proud owner very soon, so if any of you could help out by replying to my questions which I have posted here:
