View Full Version : Limited Edition RX-8 Watch
RXhusker 01-20-2004, 02:07 PM Many of you may remember the german rx-8 brochure (search) that showed the limited edition Sinn RX-8 watch that the first 888 german pre-order customers got as their pre-order gift ($1500 euros -- compared with our $10 thermos and $25 book :( )
I have found a way to get these special RX-8 watches imported to the US but am still not sure if I want to put the $$ there right now. Beautiful watch and very high-end mfg. from Germany. The rotor spins in time with the second hand. Only the yellow rotor can be imported to the US (the red was for the pre-order customers I think).
Cost to get it offically imported from Germany is $1,990.00 US.
I am still contemplating it -- thought I would let the club know that it is possible to get them.
Here are a few pics I found on the internet.

eccles 01-20-2004, 02:10 PM That's a sweet timepiece. Automatic, too - none of this quartz business.
fastrunner 01-20-2004, 02:12 PM Who got $10 thermos and books? I didn't get anything but a super car!
RXhusker 01-20-2004, 02:14 PM Here is some of the information I received from the Sinn importer:
I was a bit surprised by the price too but it has been set by Mazda for this special edition watch.
This model is a limited production one. We only have access to the model with the yellow insignia in the US.
I have no specific product brochure but I am attaching a description of this watch (in German) to this message. This watch features an automatic Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement with a hand engraved rotor, the watch case is manufactured by a reputable company named SUG in Glashütte, Germany. It comes with both a steel bracelet and a leather strap, and the tools needed to replace the strap.
Sinn is a German company based in Frankfurt. They have an excellent reputation in the watch world and are a very good value for the money. You can see their web site at the following link:
http://www.sinn.de (unfotunately only in German)
If you order three pieces or more we would offer you a discount of $150 per watch. You have to know that our margin is rather small on this watch due to the weakness of the US Dollar.

You must not have pre-ordered

Gord96BRG 01-20-2004, 02:29 PM  What a great looking watch! Much as I like it - they'd have to drop the price by 80% or more before I'd want to buy one. OK, I'm not a real watch connoisseur! :D
Regards,
Gordon
Psylence 01-20-2004, 03:11 PM Oh man that's beautiful! My bro who is a bit of a watch collector says Sinn is quite good, and the movement is quite robust.
RXHusker, which Importer did you contact regarding this watch? I might get in touch with watchbuys to see if they can get a hold of this for a little less...
Velocity-8 01-20-2004, 03:11 PM Another money draining hobby of mine is watch collecting. Sinn (pronounced Seen) is a well know brand of German watches. German watches run a close second to the famous Swiss watch makers. I'd buy that watch in a second if I had the $$.

Watchbuys gave me the best price already. A dealer in Japan wanted $3500  and one in Germany wanted $2200
93rdcurrent 01-20-2004, 04:02 PM I pre-ordered my RX-8 and all I got was this crappy t-shirt :( . Now how much in US dollars is the RX-8 in Germany. And did they get the crappy mpg and subraction in hp. Or were we just the lucky ones???
rx8daniel 01-20-2004, 04:33 PM If it becomes possible to do this, let's talk Husker - I may go for it - I sold my Breitling before Christmas...
Psylence 01-20-2004, 05:26 PM Group buy? ;)
Senseny 01-20-2004, 05:40 PM If there was a large group discount I would consider getting in. But 2,000 dollars or so is more than I have spent on my Concord Mariner, automatic Saratogo and moonphase Movado combined. I could get the Rolex (used) I have had my eyes on for a few years for only a few hundred more. All that being said, this is a beautiful watch with complications and if the price was 35 to 40 percent lower I would bite.
o_town_racer 01-21-2004, 12:06 PM All I got was a bottle of touch up paint in a steering wheel shaped box for Christmas from Mazda. I even had to pay to buy a "Zoom-Zoom" sticker. That's one sweet timepiece, but $2K is way too much. I'll stick with my $300 Seiko kinetic titanium.
Eradicator 01-21-2004, 03:24 PM I don't understand what the outer ring is supposed to be for or represent.
S3/P3/E2 01-21-2004, 03:35 PM It allows you to do mph calculation. If it takes 60 secs for you to complete one mile, then you're obviuosly travelling 60 mph. At the 30 sec position on the ring, it reads 120; at the 20 sec position it reads 180, and so on. Basically you could start your calculations at the time you begin your mile and figure out your speed.
Then again, the speedometer works pretty good to do the same thing too... :D
Eradicator 01-21-2004, 04:12 PM ... and while you're messing around with the watch, you run off the road and into a tree. Nice.
RXhusker 01-21-2004, 04:29 PM I am trying to see what kind of a discount from Germany we can get for a group buy. Quantity needed and discounted price. I'll keep you posted. Let me know if anyone is interested.
A few more details: Only the yellow rotor can be imported to the US., 3 yr. mfg. warranty with a service center here in the US. Expected production of 1000 watches total (not including the 888 red rotor german pre-order version)

You use the stopwatch to time how long (in seconds) it takes to cover one unit of distance (kilometer, mile, or whatever) and the second hand points to how many of them you would cover in an hour.
What it won't tell you is furlongs per fortnight. :)
garyna 01-22-2004, 12:26 AM I'm interested. Is it possible to find out what the case size is? From the pics it looks like a large watch. I'm guessing around 37-40 mm (about the size of your typical Rolex). Thanks!

allstate 01-22-2004, 11:11 AM If only money grew on tree's....
RXhusker 02-02-2004, 12:15 PM Update -- Sinn would not give a group buy. They said that their contract with Mazda limited their ability to discount the product. Also said that only 10 watches are currently in inventory in Germany for sale and that some more may be produced later this spring/summer but not sure.
takahashi 02-02-2004, 03:22 PM It is very nice... I like to collect everything about RX-8 but it is kinda expensive. I would not dare to wear a $2000 watch at work... :(
Preacher 05-07-2004, 05:03 AM All I got was a bottle of touch up paint in a steering wheel shaped,cheap-ass plastic box (very shoddy, thanks,Ford!) from Mazda and a difficult dealership with lackluster customer service
and an undertrained service staff.
It's nice to see that Ford brought quality control to Mazda dealerships (sighs!)
Razpewton 05-07-2004, 05:43 AM Looks ricey to me. :D :D
takahashi 05-07-2004, 06:50 AM I think Australian Mazda is very cheap compare with the Germans!
This watch is way too high class for Ford or Mazda -- who thought of this idea.
It is also sold in Japan and I think Sinn initicate the move rather than Mazda viewing their marketing of the watch
Nice but too expensive.
Preacher 05-07-2004, 07:46 AM One word:
OMEGA
'Nuff said,eh?
z00m-z00m 05-07-2004, 09:49 AM It looks snazzy but I wouldn't wear it. Unless the value could be proved and held like other watches. Its more of a fan style thing, I like the rotary and all but its too expensive and not my style.
Id be happy with a rx-8 mag light :P
sexinxs 03-24-2005, 01:32 AM If You are interested I'm selling one of the LImited edition; number 441/888

4 years to Supercharge 05-29-2006, 06:07 AM Has anyone seen this Even more Limited Edition RX-8 watch?
Brand is Rotary Elite.
Looks like only 150 were made.
Just purchased :)
Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 05-29-2006, 06:12 AM these are some crazy watches! Well, the only thing i need to tell time is my limited editioin mazda rx8 in dash clock and limited edition scratches cell phone thats one of a kind. haha
4 years to Supercharge 05-29-2006, 06:25 AM Pretty sure it has a saphire crystal, which is very scratch resistant. I won't buy a watch without one now. After owning a Gucci and a Movado which both have saphire crystals and not a scratch on either, after 5 years of use. From what I have heard it takes a diamond to scratch the saphire crystal.
The watch also has swiss movement.
Has anyone ever owned a Rotary brand watch? Maybe a little insite on reliability.
dtorre 05-29-2006, 12:40 PM Hmm well this would be a nice touch to my collection, so if anyone else is willing to purchase could we get it all shipped together? I would be willing to do it then. Plus didn't someone state earlier about a $150 dollar discount....that covers shipping =P
Hmm would never wear it though....my wrist has been reserved for only one of my watches... my Omega Speedmaster Daydate
((Little secret.....my watch collection is worth more than my 8 )) :ylsuper:
BlueEyes 05-29-2006, 01:29 PM Yeah, that watch is way overpriced at 2G's. I think someone bought one off ebay for $800.
mysql101 05-29-2006, 01:30 PM It's a $300 movement in that watch....
Personally I like my watches a little bigger.

ETA 2893-2 is tasty.
Animagix 05-29-2006, 04:40 PM just like the car, the watch will not work in cold weather and it's gonna need a new battery in the same time it takes all of us to burn a full tank of gas.
seymore15074 05-30-2006, 02:15 AM Cost to get it offically imported from Germany is $1,990.00 US.
That's a beautiful watch, but I currently don't go beyond $500 for a watch...maybe someday... :icon_droo
