View Full Version : That thing's huge!
evel333 01-14-2003, 06:32 AM Now that I've settled here on the 8 forum, I decide to visit the old 7 forum to see how things have changed. Haven't visited, much less posted, for almost a year, and I was a little overwhelmed as I was reminded how large the forum has grown and how many new messages are flowing through it every day. I can't believe I used to keep up and put up with all that, especially much of the garbage and juvenile ranting. I think as the general maturity level began to drop, so did my interest, despite the always steady and reliable information from seasoned (and at times, salty) 7 gurus and technical sages.
Given that, I look at the growth of this forum with both optimistic hope and a fearful shudder at what may happen.
Check out www.miataforum.com to see how nice a car forum can stay. It's been around forever, is huge, and people generally use good grammar, spelling, and are polite.
DrKillJoY 01-14-2003, 08:52 AM I am still on the forum over there...and I currently mod the "South Region" of the forum... I try to keep a lid on off-topic conversation and keep an eye on the "kiddoes" I can agree that the lounge area is akin to the red light district in a large city... but our little corner stays pretty tame.
I hardly EVER leave the South Region forum area, unless I am posting a general content message in one of the other areas.
Sadly, the forums that are out there and the new ones beginning to saturate the internet are a reflection of the population that visits them, and not who they represent exactly. I bet you on the RX-7 forum right now 1 out of every 3-4 users is not even a RX-7 owner. (let it be known, those are many of the people who talk with their butts and not with their heads.)
cueball 01-14-2003, 01:13 PM I dosen't bother me that only 1 in 3 or 4 is an RX-7 onwer, it is just people who talk out of their a$$ that cause problems. Look how good this forum is and none of us own an RX-8. Lets just hope it stays like this.:D
91vert 01-14-2003, 10:30 PM In defense of the RX-7 forum......I have owned 2 RX-7's (still own one) and despite all of the juvenile and idiotic crap that gets posted on there, I would not have even a fraction of the knowledge I currently have about rotaries and RX-7's in general. I am definitely no expert by any means, but the stuff I've learned from people on that forum make me feel confident enough to tear that car down to the frame and rebuild it myself if I had to. If I get stumped trying to troubleshoot any problems with that car I post a message, and within minutes have replies with valid answers to my questions, sometimes pictures, and sometimes suggestions on where to get parts at a good price.
I have probably saved myself hundreds of dollars by not having to take my RX-7 into the dealership to be worked on because of the help I have gotten from guys on that forum.
I hope that this forum can grow to be as helpful as the 7 forum has been to me in the past, and that the moderators of this forum will be a little less reluctant to ban users who habitually post inappropriate messages. I'm almost to the point (like evel333) where I get so sick of reading crap posts on that forum that I'm losing interest in it. Maybe since the RX-7's have been around for so long that there is nothing new, exciting, and pertinent to discuss on there???

thats because the miata wasn't in the fast and the furious. after that movie you had everyone and they're homies invading. i agree with 91vert as in my knowlege on the rotary and 7 would be fractional without that place. let alone the friends i've acquired. i rarely leave the 1st gen section despite owning a 2nd gen now. the immaturity and stupid questions are just too abundant and no one really searches. the lounge is for the bored and twisted only.
Some forums just tend to be better than others. it depends mostly on the mods and how well they keep up with keeping new members in line. My main forume is my350z.com (wonder why?) and that is a very good forum with very minimal ranting. Now, whenever i go to clubrsx.com it seems like it's one big flame-fest. I really hope this forum turns out to be a good one, but only time will tell (you hear that mods?, haha).
peace,

There's only so much that moderators can do in a public forum. Sure, the owners can make decisions about what topics will be talked about (like "kill stories", for example), but there is only so much that can be done.
