So I"m another one of those guys whos brakes squeal like a mofo....and it's quite embarrasing now when I stop at every stoplight. My front brakes were replaced with some cheap get me bys and my OEM roters were shaved not to long ago and thats when it all started. Anyway that was just a temporary deal and I didn't have the money at time to get the real deal, but now I'm checking into some new roters and a better set of pads. I was looking at the rx7store.net site and I came across a brake upgrade kit for 589.00. It includes 4 slotted and drilled brake roters..."they don't say what kind"...one set of brake lines....front and rear hawk HPS brake pads. Is this really worth getting....or am I wasting my time? I also wanted to know if it's a big deal to do a pair at a time....like order the front first and do the rear at a later date. If it's not then I'll go with some DBAs for the front for now cause I've heard good things about them. I don't track my car or anything. It'll be strictly street use.

Brake squeal has nothing to do with rotors. Some pad compounds squeal more than others. The solution, and probably the reason your issue started with the new cheap pads, is using the OEM shims AND high temp brake grease on the shims and backs of the backing plate of the pads. That's why the shims are there, for noise reduction. Squeal comes from the backing plate vibrating on the caliper piston. This is a cheap fix.

Your stock rotors should last for quite awhile, one route I took is using hawk ceramic pads on all for brakes with stock rotors, bed the pads properly (google a good method) and no more squeal.

...that bedding in the tires thing actually works? I read through it and it sounds like your putting your brakes through hell. I'll try it though. I thought for sure that the shaving of the roters had something to do with it. IT don't sound like a normal squeal. It's almost like a loud whistling sound when I'm about to come to a complete stop. I have to put my music up real high just to keep from going insane. Anyway...I'll try that out and see what happens

SS brake lines will change the way your pedal feels, personal preference.

Slotted/crossdrilled rotors don't do anything except looks, your choice if you want to spend money to look cool.

HPS pads are complete crap, they don't stop well nor do they work well in the rain. You are better off with stock pads than the HPS. I would say OEM is the best, but they can be pricey.

Rich will hook you up with pads and rotors of your choice and pads. Fronts with pads should be about $150.00 or so. Just search this site for rotorpros.

That being said, the stock rotors and pads are great.

nah I'll take the advise on the stock rotors and pads being just as good as anything else. I'll just put some oem pads on all around and try that bedding method.....see if it works

Holy crap....I just decided to go ahead and try that method on the brakes I have now.....and it worked. I honestly didn't think it would. I couldn't beleive it... Thanks! That saved me a ton a money
