So I just noticed someone did a number on my rear bumper. I took it out last weekend and its been sitting in the garage ever since. The reason I just noticed it is becuase my engine flooded and I put a heater in the garage to try to warm it up. Ive never filed a claim before and was wondering if I can do that being that its been almost a week and sitting in the garage right now. Its not worth owning nice things cause theres people out there that just dont give a shit. This is the same thing that happened to my pickup when I first bought. This coming spring Im going to sell it and buy a beater.

As a matter of fact I think is was done right here in my neighborhood. I pulled it out of the garage and on to a parking pad across the street to install a new washer/dryer and its possible it was done by neighbor. Should I involve local LE?

just call the insurance company, don't bother with a police report, won't do you any good, it won't get you anywhere and LE really won't give a shit unless you saw it happen.

What if I go out looking at neighbors cars and find silver paint on their bumper? And dont I need a police report to file an insurance claim?

Man, I just cannot stand things like this. You work hard and people take it or just manhandle it. It almost breaks your heart when things like that happen... Good luck

This is actually the thought process that got me behind the wheel of an 8!
Had nice a nice 99 Civic Si, my brother bought it new, I bought it from him at 75k... I drove it until 140k, still a great little car for college kid. Less than 2 months after I had it paid off... stolen... gutted, and dump onto the streets of east cleveland.

Everytime I drive my 8 around, I feel like I'm giving the middle finger to all those low lives out there that do this shit.

And OP:
I think there was someone selling a silver rear bumper not to long ago. Just be happy its not in the front, those headlights are muy expensivo to replace.

Your insurance is going to go up if you file a claim. Just fix it on your own dollar.

from that picture looks like all you need is a repaint and a new exhaust shroud. don't bother calling the insurance you'll be paying your deductable and the increase for the next 3 years. Theres someone selling an unpainted rear bumper cover in the classifieds, I suggest u grab it find a half decent body shop that'll paint match, and do it out of pocket.

Hit and run? I got hit well rear ended by a guy in a SUV with no insurance. My insurance company put 3 points on me and my insurance went up.

@!!, unless there's more to the tale of you getting rear ended, you got screwed by your insurance company. If you're not at fault insurance does not go up. They might choose to not renew your policy if it happens very often, but they can't hold it against you in your rates.

Robel - a week's delay in filing a claim should not be a problem. They'll want to know when it happened, but you know it was the day you parked out on the street. But go to a body shop for an estimate first so you know if the damage exceeds your deductable by enough to be worth filing a claim.

I havent gotten screwed yet, if at all, becuase I havent filed the claim. I talked to my Insurance rep and she said go get an estimate, if its more than my detucitble ($500) claim it, if under, dont. Friday, when I looked at it closer, I noticed that the exhaust shroud that popped off wasnt damaged at all and it went back on no problem. The top of the bumper was the same for the most part except it had a slightly broken tab but was easily able pop it back on no problem. So really the only damage is to the paint and I dont see that costing anywhere near $500 but maybe closer to $50-100. All in all I think Im in pretty good shape.

Hit and runs suck. I had to replace my bumper last summer. $625 out of pocket for the bumper from Mazda and then local painting. Fortunately the low speed impact in a parking lot didn't damage the frame or foam, so just my time removing/running around/reattaching.

My daughter's Mazda6 passenger side skirt got literally ripped off of late. Malicious crap. That cost me $300 to put right.

I increased my deductable a couple years ago so no use in contacting my insurance company.

There certainly are low lifes out there that don't give a shiite.
