View Full Version : Interest in Group Buy on Idemitsu Premix? Good Discount

Update: Bryan from Rotorsports Racing called me up today to apologetically back out of the group buy. He is a very nice older guy who spends his days working on RX-7s and he decided it's just not profitable to spend his time shipping Idemitsu.

He will still sell it for $61.95 plus UPS shipping to individuals who email him. He's already calculated shipping costs for each of you that gave me addresses, but he may not want to be inundated with too many orders.

For those who want to save on shipping, if you order in advance, he can bring your order to the Deals Gap Rotary Rally in Nantahala Village in Fontana, North Carolina on April 17-19th.

If you want to order from Bryan, you can contact him directly at:

Tel: 704-933-6222
E-mail: info@RotorSportsRacing.com

Sorry 'bout that, guys, we tried but it just isn't going to happen.

Have been thinking lately about getting some Idemitsu premix to try out.
Given this thread, I'll think about what you wrote and see if I can come up with any real options/suggestions.

But let's just say..............I am interested.

how much does a case contain? i assume we buy one case each. how many miles will a case last?

Case is 12X 1QT bottles...or 12X 32 Oz

So depending on how much you add.....that's about 50+ tanks of fuel.....

I bought a case a year ago and have some left.....

how much does a case contain? i assume we buy one case each. how many miles will a case last? You can buy more than one case if you want. Each case has 12 quarts. Each quart has 32 fluid ounces. People use different amounts per fill-up.

If I didn't also use FP+, I would probably use about 5-6 oz of premix per fill-up. But I use about 3.5 oz of Idemitsu mixed with about 1.5+ oz of FP+ per fill-up. With my typical commuting and frequent fun driving, a case of Idemitsu has lasted me a little less than 2 years or 27,000 miles.

If you track your car a lot, or get really poor gas mileage, you'll use more premix, obviously. Personally, I've averaged about 19 mpg.

Be careful trying to interpret how much premix people use, because some people disable their OMP and add much more premix for each gallon at fill-up. So recommendations in some guidelines assume there is no OMP. But most RX-8 owners keep their OMP operational. Yet some have determined that their OMP is not working that well and they might add more premix for that reason. Others use the AP to increase the amount of engine oil or Sohn adapter premix is 'injected' by their OMP.

At least you didn't ask for shipping costs to your zipcode!

I bought a case from Mazdatrix about 2-3 months ago. I think I used maybe 1-2 quarts so far ?

But hey, add me to the list, I can put them in my basement, not like its gonna rot or anything.

if this GB does go thru, remind me to buy it tho, cuz sometimes I forget things ... :)

Each box has 12 Quarts. and I use 8 oz each tankful. that means each case is good for 48 tankfuls of gas (for me)

PayPal charges 3% service charge, so Im not so sure if they wanna do that .

Could you find out about shipping to Canada.
I cannot get the 2cy (Legend) that I normally use shipped to Canada, I have to drive to Lansing to get it.
If there is a problem, I have a P.O. Box in Detroit and a rental house i own in bloomfield hills.

I was hoping we could get to 24 buyers to offset the $75 cost of a group buy thread. I've also asked a mod if there can be any other option besides a 3-month group buy thread but so far no response yet.

Right now, we're looking at about $58/case plus shipping if everyone is serious. Certainly that's better than most vendors, but I have heard from one vendor that will sell a case for $62 plus shipping. Not sure if the $75 group buy is really worth all the trouble and risk.

What do you guys think?

i think it's worthwhile finding 3 more people to get in on this to drop the price down. it'd be kind of nice to know how much the shipping was going to be before we commit.. who's to say if they're going to rape us on shipping and charge us $40/case to make their profit that way....

If we go forward, I would certainly confirm that before putting our money down, as well as djfa's Canadian shipping question. Let's see if we can get a few more.

If people want to start PMing me their name and addresses, I'll start making up a list.

I'm interested, but now is not the time for me to be spending money. That, combined with the fact that I only used two quarts last year from May through November (when the car was garaged for the winter) makes me wonder if it's a good idea to buy a case at a time. I still have two full quarts in my basement, which will probably be enough for 2/3 of next year. How long with this stuff sit? Does it "go bad?"

go ahead and add me to the list. i've been on the fence for a long time on premixing but figure i should probably start doing this now rather than later.

EDIT: if/when the time comes, please PM me to remind me about this. i probably won't check the thread that often.

I emailed Idemitsu with your question. They expect their oil to have a long shelf-life but they only warantee it for 6 months. Personally, I don't think it's a problem. My last case lasted me nearly 2 years and I wasn't concerned. The cheaper cost of a case plus this discount and the high shipping costs still make sense for me to buy this a case at a time.

But I understand about money being tight so no pressure!

Aw that's too bad..

Just to clarify, does that $61.95 already include shipping?? I found a page on their site (http://www.rotorsportsracing.com/performancetuning/idemitsu.htm) which has it listed for $53.95 / 12 quarts. Compared to $67 from Mazdatrix, which isn't a bad price already, it's a bargain.

rotary performance also has it at $53.95 .. until you add it to your cart in which it's higher and they quote a "updated price" for the year.
