I'm looking to try out the AFE short shifter before dropping the cash on it. I know a lot of people love it, but given that some are less happy, I'd like the chance to try it before buying. Is there anyone in the Boston area who would let me try the SS in their vehicle (or be willing to let me swap it into my car briefly if you'd prefer to not have me drive your vehicle)? Thanks,

who are less happy? there are no draw backs.. the only feasible negative that i can think of is the noise that it makes..

Noise? Mine doesn't make any more noise than the stock one. Make sure you get the latest version, the previous versions have been fixed.

Dont hesitate buy it you will love it. I have never heard anyone say they dislike the shifter you feel alot more connected with your gears.

The rubber boot that seals over the shifter takes away any noise from the tranny regardless if it's AFE or stock. I know this only because I took it off trying to install my synchro saver and the boot wouldn't fit over the synchro saver so I drove it without the boot, now that made noise!

Sorry I do not hear any transmission chatter and I am very allergic to noise in my car. ie. squeeks, droning (hence my dual res midpipe), or any kind of clicking noise. It drives me up the wall til I find it. I'm not saying you car (Alz0rz) does not have the chatter but mine does not. Each car is different and like I said there are about three/four versions of this AFE shifter or cup actually. I had three out of the four but none of them chattered, the latest/current version is bulletproof.
