View Full Version : open track days
Bigbacon 01-02-2010, 09:22 PM Are there any tracks in Virginia (northern to ccentral would be best) that have open track time on a regular basis?
Actually, doesn't need to be in VA, MD or even southern PA works.

Bigbacon 01-03-2010, 12:01 PM I should have added, I don't want a drag strip....no fun to me.
Rotr8 01-03-2010, 01:00 PM Summit is in MD and New Jersey Motorsports is an amazing track and faciity, then you have VIR in VA...
kersh4w 01-03-2010, 04:03 PM VIR is awesome. their grand east configuration is quite amazing.
and it was a joke. :) but seriously rotr, how many times have you gone drag racing?
Rotr8 01-03-2010, 06:23 PM about 10 times with the 8 and over 20 with the MR2 ;-) mostly up at Cecil Country, and a few down at Capitol...
Its a minor rush especially when staging, but being on a road track is so much more of a rush...

Virginia International (http://www.virnow.com/), Alton VA (12 mi. east of Danville, almost on the VA/NC line)
Summit Point (http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/), Summit Point WV (14 mi. NE of Winchester VA)
Beaverun (http://www.beaverun.com/), near Pittsburgh PA
Mid-Ohio (http://www.midohio.com/) in Lexington, OH
Of them all, look to Summit Point for FATT, Friday At The Track (http://www.summitpointfatt.com/) for your corner carving needs. :)
Summit Main is cool as a old-school 11 turn race course, but a FATT on "The Shen", the Shenandoah (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=grassrootsmiata#p/u/0/HsGmecEe7dg) circuit, is awesome! :D:

EMRA runs at NJ
There are many clubs
elysium19 01-19-2010, 08:35 PM Summit point is a really good track, and has a long, fast straight. Nice facility, dont know how close it is to you.
emraracing.org - welcomes newcomers, and does track days at a lot of locations in the northeast/mid-atlantic region
Lots of regional BMW and porsche groups have days that are closed to members and yet if you email the coordinator and ask, they will often have no problem with an outsider. I've seen that happen a lot...

Exactly!
Best date so far was Watkins Glen with the Northern New Jersey Porsche Club. Five non-marque cars among 120 Porsches, I was the sole RX-8. Three days of perfect track time, so much I burned up a new set of brakes and almost had to put on the "emergency cracker thickness" spares to get home. :D:
One place to looks for these groups and events is MotorsportReg.com/ (https://www.motorsportreg.com/)
I listed the track days for emra in a thread you posted in. They have the best prices for track days
http://www.emraracing.org/
there is also nasa, they charge more per day but I am still considering going some of their dates.

As for "regular basis" you can join the track of your choice but that is afew grand, and that might be an understatment.
adamwzl 01-21-2010, 02:54 PM I plann on going to Summit for FATT in May. If anyone is interested let me know.
