All the time. I learned on a car that had poor synchros, and my first car had NO synchros on 1st. Been doing it for over 20 years now, and I have to concentrate not to double-shuffle a downshift.

It makes life a little easier for the synchro rings. With modern materials it's not strictly necessary, but I can still double-clutch a downshift faster than I could if I was relying purely on the synchros. As to how-to: try a search - it's been discussed here several times before.

The only time I do it is when I downshift more than one gear down, like from 6th to 4th, or 3rd, or from 5th to 3rd or 2nd. I don't downshift into 1st very often, and one gear down on the Renesis isn't hard on the synchros

Synchromesh. When you change down to a lower gear, the gearbox input shaft has to be accelerated to allow the lower gear to mesh. Synchromesh does that for you these days, but a proficient double-clutcher can still do it faster in some instances.

I still do- not on every downshift, but when the revs are really high I like to. My Miata was the first car I did this routinely with, but it really helps you become one with the vehicle : )
