Does anyone know where to get a nys inspection with CEL on?

Don't know the NY laws, but my guess is there is no LEGAL way to get an inspection sticker while the CEL is lit.

Any reason you can't fix the problem and then get your inspection done?

yeah there is no legal way.

this is because ny state requires obd2 compliance, they hook up a DMV-networked computer to your obd2 port and you will automatically fail if you have a CEL lit. the results/test are sent to the DMV immediately.

There is a way to get it push thru, I used to know a shop around here but it was closed recently.

Use a Scangauge or Code reader (or AP) to reset it?

If his CEL is due to emissions (midpipe) then even resetting it won't make him pass because OBD2 tests make sure the car has atleast 100 miles and several drive cycles on it since the previous reset or its another auto fail...

Using an AP with a map that -disables- the CEL will solve this ;]

They do a visual for emissions and inspection. So unless they're stupid they wont pass your car w/o the exhaust on.

Lol, maybe that's why they closed ;). There is no "magic button" to push a car through emissions. There are ways around it like running the test w/o signal "disconnected" however if the tech does that too many times they get fined, and the fine is hefty! So unless hes a good friend of yours they wont do it.
