I keep reading that fuel pumps for the 8 is around $130.00 but when I google it all the places that have them are $170.00 to $180.00

Are these the current prices for fuel pumps? I need a new one asap! My car keeps stalling out. I have checked the coils, changed the spark plugs, new wires, compressions good, cleaned the MAF, cat is non existent...
Should I buy this used one? Used pump

I got mine from a fellow member here, swoope. Try to get a hold of Paul or Sheldon at Mazmart...they should be able to hook you up. Hell, I think they have a couple 09 FP's for $200, much better pump, only a little modding to make it work for the pre-09 8's.

Get a hold of Denny (olddragger) he did the conversion...not sure about a a DIY though.

You're right Mazsurfer, it could be the sock. I was gonna check today, but I have been running around. I read that once the sock gets dirty though, and the pump start failing, it's on it's way out anyhow.
I hope it's the sock, I think I'm just tired of stalling in the middle of the road that I want to change out the whole thing completely.

 

You can have my old one temp. while you get another one. I purchased a upgrade from BHR but I do not know if they are for sale yet. I am pulling mine on Sunday afternoon and installing the new one if you want the old one. I have not yet had a problem with it. I also have the tool.

 

Thanks but I have one on order already and I PMed olddragger about the 09 fuel pump modification so that I can use it in the 04-08 models.

 

Well the sock was clean on my old pump but I swapped it out with Phil's, I hope the pump was bad and this fixes my problem. I only had 26K miles on it.

 

stock pump sucks. and it dies much faster if you constantly run it with low amount of fuel.

Cuz the fuel itself act as "coolant" and you live in Vegas ... yeah its hot and it kills it.

Anybody find the DIY for the 2009 pump modification. I'm looking to replace my 2004 pump (with 102,000 miles on it) and it seems like the updated pump would be the way to go.

I modded the 09 pump into my 04 per OD's instructions. There's no official DYI with pics. I guess there's a need for one and I'll volunteer. I just need pics of the new pumps (with different views so I can pic and choose) and the old pump. Unfortunately I didn't bother taking pics when I was doing it.

 

I think my pump is acting up.

I dont know why, This is my 2nd pump which I replaced like maybe 20 K miles ago. Now when the fuel is lower than 1/2 tank, if I go high rpm I will get p0171 code. Yeah, running lean.

Pump is not catching up? maybe. what you guys think ?

 

nycgps Just a long shot...

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled.
* There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible solutions include:

* In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
* Inspect all vacuum and hoses, replace if necessary
* Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
