I have an axxess ipod adapter that displays TEXT on the radio screen. my radio has a 9.55 firmware on my '04 with navi.

Older ipods: charges and play
newer ipods: only plays, WON'T charge
Itouch: only plays, WON'T charge
iphone: never tested it with it ( i don't own one)

I owned a 2nd gen and a 4th geb nano

for the new ones, you can use this adapter to eneble charging on them

once connected, ipod/itouch screen will lock up and can only be controlled by the radio/steering wheel buttons

The iPhone and newer iPods need the power adapter as well for charging. The Axxess box uses the firewire 5v charger for some reason instead of the usb 12v. *shrug*

How do you install this? And would it work for an 8 without the Nav System?

 

well, for installation you must remove the radio completely and install one end of the adapter to where the tape module would go and boila you're done just put everything back on and you're good to go. there should not be a reason as to why it wouldn't in a car without nav system since they're not attached thru the adapter.

I have one of these and it works well. I also bought the aux in cable so can use my iphone and other mp3 players if needed. The text display is nice to have. Good luck with the sale.

it is indeed. i bought used so never got that or the instructions and never bothered getting one since all i have is an ipod

 

w00t w00t...congrats on the sale and purchase. As an original owner of the Axxess box I never got any instructions either. I guess they figure you can use the DIY to get the radio out and then from there it is pretty self explanatory.
