ash - other versions of this article have quotes from mazda and toyota denying it, saying things like "even if it was true i couldn't talk about it" etc. one version i read seemed like the idea was made up by the analyst writing/reporting "mazda could source the needed components from toyota" rather than build entirely on their own

this may be reporters and analysts talking to each other and then reporting what they talk about

Did someone say something about a hybrid 16X? Just kidding, although I think there's potential there.

Hmmmmm... This sounds like a good partnership, however Toyota will not give their latest hybrid drivetrain to Mazda. With their partnership with Honda, I think they only supplied Honda with last gen stuff.

A hybrid SKY engine would have very very good mileage, good for PR.

A hybrid 16X would have normal fuel mileage =)

mazda had a hybrid rotary concept back in the late 80's, maybe the electric side will give the 16x the economy improvement we have heard rumors of?

Plus there is a "rotor" in an electric motor so we could say we are finally getting a three rotor?!?

I have a 6-rotor RX-8. Only 2 of them produce power however.

And Mazda has a hybrid, a hybrid rotary even. There is a production line Mazda5 variant has a rotary engine powering an electric drivetrain.

Trying to find where I saw that it was open for lease in Sweden(?)

Yes Charlie, as you know these "events" take a life of their own, everyone picks it up....including me..

Could be BS..., on the scale of the BS meter, I am leaning..might just happen or a 65% YES, because it makes sense if Mazda Really want to do this....

Somehow I really don't think Mazda want to do this...but the "Market" does.

Hybrids are still less than 1% of total car sales, does Mazda want to Design and Make a Model Line that would sell at about the same rate as their Rotary???..

well i dont think they would even produce a separate car. probably just do hybrid 3 or something along that line

I believe it was Nissan who Toyota supplied hybrid info and parts to, not Honda.
