View Full Version : My RX8 theme song
6speed8 01-15-2004, 09:55 PM I recorded a song called MY RX8 in my home recording studio. I played the guitars and bass and used a drum machine. I then strapped a portable recorder on the back of my RX8 and recorded the exhaust sound. I then took the exhaust sound and mixed it into the music. (I know I'm nuts). I had to take the original recording of 20 mb and reduce it to under 2 mb, so the sound is not the best, but you'll get the idea. If you would like to hear it please click here:

what do you all think?
Smoker 01-15-2004, 11:21 PM Sounds pretty cool ! my only suggestion is to record a more engine sound clip at different tone and mix them in. Gets boring hearing the same engine noise over and over again

6speed8 01-15-2004, 11:28 PM Yeah , I was limited to how long I could drive, and where. I had to attach the recorder to the license plate frame and it blocks a bit of the tag. I also was limited to doing it at night on a somewhat empty road. I do agree more different engine speeds would have been better. I can always record the exhaust anytime and just mix it in. If anyone has a good length of an RX8 exhaust clip, I could take that and possibly work with it.
B-Nez 01-15-2004, 11:36 PM Interesting. The speakers on my laptop really suck, so I didn't actually listen to it much. Could you perhaps describe your home studio a bit? Here's my wannabe Home Studio:
PC Stuff
AthlonXP1800 desktop with SBLive and LiveDrive
Cakewalk Sonar 3 Producer Edition (PAID for!)
Hardware
Alesis Quadraverb2
ART Tube MP Studio V3 (mic preamp)
Shure SM57 mic
Guitar Gear
Ibanez 540SLTD
Marshall 2500 Head (JCM900 SL-X, 50W)
Marshall 1936 Cab (2x12)
ART X-15 Ultrafoot MIDI Controller
I only recently bought SONAR, so I'm re-doing my old CWPA9.0 projects. Already a HUGE difference. I'm re-tracking some guitars this weekend at 48kHz. Too much fun and not enough free time.

Here is a quick diagram I did months ago:
6speed8 01-15-2004, 11:53 PM Here is a photo of some stuff: (I have two Fender Strats on the other side of the room, not in the photo) I mostly use th eLine6 Pod, but will use the Marshall, and I have a crate amp behind the Marshall. I record on the Korg D1600 Digital recorder, then send it to my PC (which I built specifically for this) to shape the sound.
B-Nez 01-16-2004, 12:37 AM Nice setup. I forgot to mention my Edirol PCR-30. It is a small and simple keyboard controller, but it fits perfectly on my desk and I love having all the assignable knobs and sliders. My next purchase needs to be a pair of near-field monitors. I'm using some Koss computer speakers right now - bad. I'm thinking of moving my Philips stereo unit in there in the meantime.
What do you use for drums and percussion?
I use soundfont drums, then import the SFBank into the VSampler DXi to export the audio track. I tell you, it is so much easier than before. I used to record the MIDI loops to audio tracks. Very painstaking, and you don't feel like fixing anything that may come to light later on. Now, I mostly leave it as MIDI track until all other tracks are recorded, and I'm 100% happy with the track. After I finish these 3 songs I'm working on, I'm looking forward to making some of my own groove loops to play around with.

Ahem.. let clear me throat...
Melonade, Melonade, MELONADE!!
Nothing satisfies like melonade...
I picked myself up from the ground
I checked my pants and looked around
I wonder if she stole my cash
Cause if she did I'll kick her a**....
 :D
6speed8 01-17-2004, 12:26 AM Ah yeah, he (Rx8past) has a great voice, I could see (hear ) that happening. Now all we need are some words.
LRTRX8 01-17-2004, 01:19 AM Sounds great! I wish I hadn't just got rid of my Roland TD-7 drum kit or I could have helped you out a bit in the drum department. I play and sequence drum tracks.
