Hey guys,

Well it's my first experience driving the RX-8 in the snow and extreme cold conditions (we just had a snow storm and forecasters are calling for near 0 degree temperatures here in Jersey).

Well, driving in the snow with my L-22 blizzakz was a piece of cake. DSC kick in a couple of times but not once did I skid out or get stuck in the snow. However, the only problem I had was my windshielf wiper fluid. I think the nozzles or the tubing froze!!!
I couldn't get any fluid out of the nozzles and this morning I was basically driving almost blind (damn salt accumluted on my windshield and I could clean it).

SO has anybody else had this problem and/or are there any solutions??

Same here. Makes a real mess in the engine bay ....I dont think much can be done, its not the fluid, rather the water that freezes around the nozzles. Covering them will help. Most fluid will withstand -25f or better..still, it wont melt layers of ice.

What kind of rims did you get with your winter tires.

put them on stock rims. I'm planning on putting the OEM tires on a new set of rims.

SO there is no solution for the wiper fluid. I wonder how the folks up in Canada deal with this.

I don't even use my washer fluid which is a habit from my previous car that had the nozzles on the hood. They'd always squirt some on the hood and leave hard water spots. But the 8 doesn't have nozzles on the hood...another nice little touch.

Besides, it never rains much in Paradise does it ???

I had that problem last year with my Miata when the temp dropped below zero (F). I switched to this stuff called Liquid Fire (it's a neon red colored liquid) that I think Turtle Wax markets, and had no problems since.

The first thing I did with my 8 when I brought it home was throw this stuff in the washer tank since it the temp was dropping the day I bought it. I had no problems so far with the 8 with temps down to -8 or so.

Never had that problem down here :p I don't like to use bottled fluid since it leave spots all over the car. I use distilled water with a splash of rubbing alcohol.

I didn't have a problem here either and the temps went down to -25 F here as well. I used all season windshield cleaner. You shouldn't be having a problem if the fluid can withstand the cold and if not try your local auto parts store they will have the good stuff.

where in NJ do you live I would love to check out your snow tires. :p

One thing that I have been doing for years is to use a needle or push-pin and clean out the openings that the fluid squirts out of. Another thing is to clean around the openings well when you scrape the windshield.

im having the same problem, fluid doesn't come out, after a day in the office ill go back out with the sun hitting my car (black), and the washer fluid flows fine.

so we're saying the solution is getting some better fluid huh, any other suggestions than liquid fire?

I use the typical all weather stuff. Haven't had to put anything special in and I am sure that we had just as cold temps as you folks have.
