View Full Version : Racing Beat gauge panel kit for 2009-2010 RX8s
kster 12-01-2009, 10:56 AM I emailed RB about a gauge kit for the 2009 RX8. They said they're still undecided if it's worth spending the development effort for a low demand item. So if you 2009-2010 owners are interested, e-mail RB and let them know.
Jedi54 12-01-2009, 11:32 AM I hope they end up making one for you guys, I know the RB gauge pod in my car is one of my favorite mods.
I don't think the pod sold as well as they would have liked for the Series I RX-8 and it did take quite a while for them to release the product so be patient but also recognize that there is a good chance they wont' release this so I'd look into other alternatives. (always good to have a "Plan B")
CyberPitz 12-01-2009, 12:01 PM I'm wanting to nab the gauge pod for myself on my S1, but I just don't have the knowledge skills to install it and the gauges :( That's the 1 thing holding me back.
Jedi54 12-01-2009, 12:19 PM ^^ there's a pretty good DIY for that around here somewhere. ;)
invite a few forum members over, proride beer + pizza, 3 hours later you'll have gauges.
I'd actually prefer RB to do some work on 09 springs than the gauge pod...
or work on other mods specific for SII's...

Frak, so the TEIN Flex coilovers I have sitting around won't work? Damn it. :tear:
olddragger 12-01-2009, 01:17 PM you want to sell them!!!!!!!
OD
neofreak 12-01-2009, 01:32 PM We'll see. Depends on if they work on the 09 or not.
kersh4w 12-01-2009, 01:37 PM the fact that it costs $450.... christ.
EMart11b 12-01-2009, 01:41 PM The problem with this is nobody has gotten oil gauges in an 09/10 yet because of the new oil filter location so obviously the demand for a gauge pod is extra low.

I think the price is quite fair considering it's a full plug / play kit. The pod itself is only about $100 if you want to buy it seperately.

Even if the oil filter weren't an issue, just look at the sales for the 2004 - 2008 model year sales and you can derive from that the low demand this product will have.
EMart11b 12-01-2009, 01:50 PM ^ That and I'm pretty sure the top panel of the center consol is the same in the 09s... could be wrong though.

No shit. And the gauges are mechanical, what a PIA. You 09' guys should just get a vent pod for oil pressure gauge, Auber for Oil temp and the Scangauge II for whatever other four readings you want to see at a time.

The top of the center console is a large center speaker if you have the bose sound system..
kersh4w 12-01-2009, 04:02 PM what he is saying is that the lotek gauge pod will probably fit. and its only $45.

AND its in a better location.

Again, that whole area is the 09's center speaker location with the bose sound system.

from that pic i cant see it, but you realize that gauge pod is only 6" deep. and who cares if you cover an inch or two of a speaker.
buuuuut, from the looks of it that gauge pod will not lie flat on a 2009 rx8. however, i bet lotek can make a gauge pod for a 2009 rx8 and guess how much it'll be? $45.
EMart11b 12-01-2009, 04:12 PM Could also go with one of these deals

kersh4w 12-01-2009, 04:13 PM thats an option too, but it only can hold 2 gauges and its expensive. it also makes your cluster look like mickey mouse.

from what i can see, there is plenty of room for a gauge pod up there.

i think the spring perches are different heights. If you go with a full coilover, I believe that addresses the problem?
The way RB does their R&D is to find the optimum spring rate and height for driving both on the street and on the track... so if the perch height is different, it changes the COG and the balance than what they had designed the 04-08 springs for... will it make a difference if you use them? i have no idea, nor do i think i'd be able to tell... but i would prefer to have ones that were specifically designed for the car...

Hahaha, yeah, I would do that. No real local 8ers around here. If someone from KC or something wants to help, I'll provide booze, pizza and lodging if needed ;)
*EDIT* No homo!

Dampers are only different in the rear. There's a thread around here somewhere comparing Koni 04-08 spec rears to stock 09 rears.
Huey52 12-02-2009, 01:46 PM It's a full plug & play once you replace the OEM flimsy plastic oil pressure line with a nice stainless steel flex tube. ;)

electric gauges my good sir, electric gauges. ;)
Huey52 12-02-2009, 02:25 PM ^ LMFAO I knew that was comin'. ;)
Chibana 12-02-2009, 05:57 PM I emailed them about the gauge panel kit for my 09 shortly after I bought it in March. This would be one of the first things I would do to my 09 (after my wheels I already did) if it were available.
1stgen8 12-13-2009, 06:18 PM Just make your own. I didn't mind hacking up the back half of my ashtray to come up with this. It's not done yet but looks good in the car. Placement of the gauges are a little closer than I'd like but i can live with it. I will post additional pics once I have finished. If you all recall I also made one out fiberglass for my 05 GT a few years back. Could not do the same design I did back then cause the 09 astray is a little smaller.
Chibana 12-14-2009, 03:49 PM The problem isn't with the gauge panel, it's with the oil sensor position adapter mount. I suspect that the performance shop I've taken my cars to for years could fabricate something for me, but at what cost? This gauge kit is already pretty expensive, and for them to spend hours fabricating something would only add significantly to that cost. I'll wait it out and see what develops.
9krpmrx8 12-14-2009, 04:10 PM What gauges are you looking for exactly? If you don't care about Oil Temp or Oil Pressure then just get a Scangauge II and you can read four readings at a time.
Chibana 12-18-2009, 11:42 AM Oil temp and pressure were the two I was most interested in.

know how to install gauges or not, its ok. the gauge kit comes with detailed instructions on where to route the lines.
(but here's a tip: buy copper lines and also plumb the lines in between the heat shield to lessen rattling, if you go mechanical)
whoneedspistons 12-19-2009, 10:20 AM Ill have something foro teh 04-08 guys to look at shortly and if the 09 guys are interested I could make something similiar. I will keep you posted
