View Full Version : Complainers and Trolls are DESTROYING this site!
RX8Lover 01-14-2004, 05:27 PM When I first came to this site early last summer, it was fresh with excitement, and great reviews and feedback from drivers.
NOT ANYMORE.
Now, I daily have to sift through all the crap threads that get started here. Sometimes it's a troll complaining about how a 350Z is better. Other times it is a newbie asking a question that could have easily been answered by hitting a search button. Still others feel the need to post threads on something like gas mileage...where we all know the situation, and don't need CONSTANT reminder of it.
I think I find 20% of the threads on this forum are actually worth reading. The rest is just garbage.
As much as I love this site, my car, and the community of rotary lovers, I am beginning to get disgusted on the thread subjects that get posted. I hope to God it improves.
Outlaws eXtreme 01-14-2004, 05:29 PM But aren't we all newbies at one time or another? Most of the questions people ask that have already been asked are fairly new.. like 1-2 posts. So simply pointing them the right direction, perhaps they will learn from it, instead of feeling like dog poopy and leaving.
8_wannabe 01-14-2004, 05:30 PM Hey, stop complaining! :-) I don't frequent car forums other than this but many people have said that this forum is the most positive they've seen. I can just imagine how gloomy the others must be.
compaddict 01-14-2004, 05:31 PM Kind of like this thread...
Boozehound 01-14-2004, 05:33 PM Sure there are people complaining and asking newbie questions, but if you ever wanted information on your car this place is the only place to go. Just filter through the tripe like the rest of us - this forum, at least to me, has definitely been worth at least that much effort.
Outlaws eXtreme 01-14-2004, 05:35 PM This forum helped me confirm that RX-8 is the right car for me. I'd want more people buying RX-8's, that way, RX-7's come back, fully turboed, and I'll get that as my weekend fun car.
racerdave 01-14-2004, 05:36 PM Welcome to the internet, man.
Just do your part by not getting defensive and contributing thoughtful posts.
The good will outweigh the bad.
Icanrel-8 01-14-2004, 06:00 PM As a semi-newbie myself, I have found a lot that like Outlaws Extreme, has cemented my decision to buy the 8. Most stuff that's real negative without being useful doesn't last past a couple of posting, in my experience, and is balanced by opposite views.
I'm very comfortable in this community, and I think that the moderators do a really good job of shutting down the knuckleheads, without restricting free expression.
Except for the labeling of someone's accessorizing as "rice" (whether it is deserved or not), everybody's really helpful and forgiving of lack of searching. And sometimes, I've tried searching for a topic and found nothing only to find it linked in a new thread in an unexpected place.
Plus, maybe I'm a little sarcastic myself, but a few of the less forgiving comments have given me hours of laughing my s off. Just remember to :D when you say that...
stickman 01-14-2004, 06:03 PM I have been visiting this forum for a couple of weeks now. I am still waiting delivery of my rx8. I was going to wait until I took delivery before joining this forum (I am already a member of the Miata forum), but after seeing this thread I decided to join today. I have to say that I have already learned a lot from the various posts on this forum. Not everything is worth reading but by and large people are helpful and informative. It is really pretty good compared to what you typically see on the internet.
Outlaws eXtreme 01-14-2004, 06:15 PM Welcome stickman, this board definitely helps people learn more about the car and what ways to take care of our rides once we have it. Hell, I would have hired some of the posters on this board to sell Mazda RX-8s with the enthusiasm and knowledge they have.
Kaliken 01-14-2004, 06:18 PM well something that I find interesting is that even though we get a lot of newbies we still try to help them out. Very different from a lot of other forums I have been to. Granted I think we can correct a lot of repetative posts with a good FAQ (i remember someone said they are compiling one --thank you)
otherwise this is a great site.. where else would someone find opinoins of real owners and not the dealers words.
ibfubar2000 01-14-2004, 06:22 PM ive have been a member of this forum for a few months and i really enjoyed it at first. i don't mind the repost of questions by newbies. the reason i dont login and post too much anymore is because i got tired of all the MEMBER BASHING. i got tired of reading PERSONAL retributions to other members. when i first joined it was family but then it turned imto fighting name calling. that is why i do not like this fourum as much anymore.
ml2316 01-14-2004, 06:55 PM the only way the complaining is going to stop on this board is if mazda fixes the problems with the rx8. it's pretty simple.

Welcome back. I'd say the member bashing is limited to a few victims, and normally when they're asking for it. eclips, ike and mental pimp come to mind, plus mikeb when he's "stuffing the ballot box" to remain atop the posters list. Other than that, people just say dumb stuff but not too personal.

The problems are just a figment of your imagination :p
Most 8 owners are perfectly happy with their cars. It's just an isolated few that do enough complaining to sound like there are one million dissatisfied owners.
shift_zoom8 01-14-2004, 07:06 PM RX8Lover,
This isn't your forum so SHADUP.:)
Hayseed 01-14-2004, 07:06 PM The fact that the forum is attracting newbies should be good news. I think we should make them feel welcome. So what if they ask a question that's already been answered? Other forums seemed like closed elitist communities. I hope this one stays welcoming.
Toadman 01-14-2004, 07:07 PM Destruction of the forum? mmmm...k.
If you arent interested in off-topic conversation, then simply stay away from The Lounge. Member bashing? Use the "report post to moderator button". Our volunteer crew here is elite(l33t?) but can't be everywhere 24/7. Overall I think we kick ass over most forums. :D
FYI-The FAQ's will be updated. ;)
Hi ibfubar, long time no see! Don't be a stranger... :D
Hayseed 01-14-2004, 07:08 PM ...and I agree. This thread is a downer.
8_wannabe 01-14-2004, 07:25 PM People who insult and say negative stuff are stoopid
carnut 01-14-2004, 08:27 PM You know, I've learned so much on this forum; it's a matter of looking at what looks helpful. I've been entertained a lot, too. I don't spend much time on here, so I'm probably also missing out on all kinds of things. Get what you can out of it, I say!
klegg 01-14-2004, 09:57 PM Thank god he is not attacking my polls...

according to polls on this site, 21% are not "perfectly happy" with their rx-8s. that's a big chunk.

wow.. fanning the flames...
way to go...
LesPaul 01-15-2004, 07:18 AM It does seem like several "old-timers", and by that I mean members from before release of the car, don't seem to be posting anymore. Perhaps that is because they are happy with their cars and have moved on.
I now check weekly (instead of several times a day) to see if there is any "new" news.
RX8lover....not to be a A$$ or anything...but aren't you contributing to your so called "destruction" of the forum by being a hypocrite and complaining yourself...
I think it's good more new people are showing up....you were new to forums one day, i was as well as everyone one here...just so happens I am an experienced forum member since I own a lot of cars....so I know to look for "search" fields and such..not everyone does....so how bout helping instead of creating another useless thread...
Elara 01-15-2004, 09:11 AM Here's the dilemma with the so-called degradation of the forum- we can police it, and only let nice posts through, and get called the Internet Police, OR, we can let people say what they want when they want and be accused of not being strict enough and letting the trolls take over. For an example, see the lovely post in Discussions about how I'm full of BS for closing a stupid repeat thread. Finding a happy medium is not easy, though the mods do their best. As Toadman pointed out, more use of the "report button," and staying out of the lounge might be helpful to some people.

I for one miss your insights...
amartin 01-15-2004, 10:55 PM Actually..the only thing RX8Lover does is insult people..Do a quick search on his posts and replies... he's a shame to the community and to the Mazda name.
Its embarrasing that we have such an immature child in this community... I guess you can't prevent mommy and daddy from spoiling their kid eh?
To give you an idea, here's a quick list from only the first 2 pages of MANY of his replies:
My RX8 consistently gets 19MPG. Ha Ha, sucks to be you, buddy.

Just take a photo in the daytime when you are done with the project. Your current pictures serve no purpose except to waste bandwidth.

somehow your wheel gap looks bigger than stock. You need to lower it immediately so people don't laugh at you as you drive by.

ok, looking for a definitive answer to this question is both stupid and ridiculous. how would any member know what is being put in your "friends" Rx8, if this is even true?

^-- Pretty amazing, since your contributions do nothing but inflame and insult.
.... I think you can judge from yourself, and if this isn't enough...simply do a search on RX8Lover...
Elara 01-16-2004, 07:28 AM Damnit, STOP it with the personal insults. That's directed at everyone! Argh!
insult...?! who insulted?
Elara 01-16-2004, 08:37 AM Check the post above mine. And then the attacks on amartin in Discussions. Going to drive me crazy.
