I'm having problems with my heater and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the DIY on the site about having to solder a couple of points on the back of the control unit to get it working again. I need help removing it all, I'm not mechanically inclined. I've got a solder gun and some solder but I don't have enough confidence to take it apart without breaking something. If anyone is familiar with this and could help me out I sure would appreciate it. It's starting to get cold and no heat is going to suck! I will compensate whoever can help fix the problem. looks like a simple fix.. the hardest part will be contorting to get that pesky 10mm hex bolt that holds the radio in.. I HATE that bolt!!

Just wanted to say thanks again to Brian for coming over last night and helping me out with this. Its so nice to have heat again! He pretty much did all the work I didn't know how to take it all apart but I definitely learned good stuff for the future. The soldering fix worked perfectly, before the dial would stay at 0 and now moves smoothly to 16. Thanks again for your help!

You know how you solve the hex bolt problem... once you remove it once, you never put it back in...

If a thief knows enough to get the RX-8's radio out, they know about the hidden bolt. Yea, it'll take them longer to steal it, but they'll still steal it.
I can actually get the radio out in about 2 minutes if the bolt is already out.

if they really want it they'll take it, so i would think in my opinion its better to make it easier on them instead of getting alot more crap messed up from them trying to figure out how to get it out.... and a stereo like ours is not as wanted on the black market than aftermarket stereos ... really the only people that would want it or need it is other people that have rx8's and they probably already know what to do.... but thats my opinion

Haha, that works too. But I was lucky, someone else had previously removed the radio for the heater problem (those fucking thieves at Hiley Mazda) and didnt put the bolt back for me :)

Meh, the car has an alarm on it and frankly If they are in the car they probably just gonna take the whole car.... I have way too many other things to worry about than things getting stolen, I can't protect everything :/
