"Mazdas have great handling. Very sporty feel. They've also got pretty good styling; I've yet to see a truly ugly Mazda. The RX-8 verges on "distasteful" in a few respects I think. a) the grille looks goofy. Put a license plate in there and you've got a very angry chipmunk starin' back at you b) the rear quarter profile doesn't seem to sit right c) did I mention the angry guppy look when you put a license plate in the grille? " End Quote
Some other people also said the handling sucks compare to G35, and that 350zs is worth the extra 5-10k on top of it compare to the 8. Guess those people need a reality check and realize they paid way too much for half of what the 8 is offering.

what's the point? many of us here have commented on the bugs bunny/angry chipmunk etc look of the car with a front plate on. it was one of the first things i commented on when i joined the forum 2 years ago. many of the current owners also didn't like the look from the back but it has grown on them.
as far as measuring up to other cars- we have the articles to and the driving pleasure that proves them wrong. let them live in their little dream world.

I agree with A and C, it's been first mentioned on this board. :)

although i should say that comments like "my friend was really considering to get this car, test drove it 3-4 times and it just didnt cut it. it's SLOW. he ended up getting a rsx-s which feels a lot faster." piss me off. he got the other car because it felt faster not because it was? and of course "Rotaries have peak power output yes *definitely beat out pistons there* but if engine efficiency and true power output were to be measured *ie, measuring the area under a dynograph* you'll find a piston motor still produces more power over a wider range than any rotary." is just plain wrong as been shown thru many many dyno charts brought out as examples on this forum from the likes of buger. but what are you going to do go over there and start a war that ends up with a bunch of flaming trolls coming over here? is it really worth it?

And on top of that all these people will be fairly startled when some of us spend the extra $5k and add that turbo, intake, exhaust and ECU upgrade. Then let's see who has the advantage 350z, RSX, M3? Just think about 150hp+ with more torque...

Yawn :o
You really think the 350Z or G35 forums are going to be posting comments like "the 8 is the greatest thing since sliced bread?" Those are typical comments that most of us would expect to find on other car forums.
Yawn :o

I expected the negative comments... but what I thought was interesting was the poster's response about efficiency and how the Rotary is a terrible engine. Thankfully someone already responded back and explained to them the true power or Rotaries. And it was one of their forums users/owner of G20 that defended the Rotary :P
Following up on Zoom's thing about the car feeling faster than the 8 but not being faster than the 8 . . . the fastest FEELING car that I ever had was by far the WORSTE car that I ever had. It was an '82 Toyota Tercel that felt fast because it transmitted horrify amounts of road trash through the controls and noise since it had no insulation.
However, I can understand someone who wants a car that feels fast but isn't. Those cas can be fun to drive, and as for the looks of the 8, it's polarizing. People either love or hate the looks of the 8, but that is the sign of successful design. If everyone kind of liked it then the designers have followed the curve too much. If some people love it and some hate it, then they have created soemthing which is strong, and in this case is leading a design curve. Personally, I think that that design is cutting edge, and it will be seen for years to come as a "classic" As an example, the 1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto was fairly resoundlingly denounced in 1966 as dull and the rounded rear end was pointed out as being the worste part of the design. That design is now hailed as one of the great sports car designs of the 1960's. It was just on the cutting edge of a curve toward simpler and more elegant design.
All that aside, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I am not offended by the artistically stunted or small brained thinking that my car is ugly. Eventually, they will be fed into the machine to make soilant green. (Just kidding . . . I hope)

Well in addition to our titanium gray fully loaded RX8 we have two C5 Corvettes and driving the RX8 is almost (just almost!) as fun as driving them!! The G35 and new 350Z do not hold a candle next to it.

Last time I posted a thread about another forum misunderstanding the 8, it was promptly closed.

nevermind, I read that thread. it wasn't bad. Most were complimentry of the 8. Some ignorance abound but it wasn't bad.
