Did I mention it's a r/c car? Anyways, just got my hpi mazdaspeed rx-8 body. I painted it titanium gray to match my car. For those of you that want to do the same this is what you need.

1st apply:

4 layers of "Pearl White" racing paint. Allow paint to dry between each layer

The apply:

3 or more layers of "Outlaw Black" racing paint until the black evens out.

This should give you the titanium gray look.

Too damn cool! nice job on the custom paint matching... I suppose brilliant black would be a no-brainer :)

Yupp thats the Hpi 190mm, I think most of the local r/c stores should have them now if they ordered it.

The kits arent too expensive now, if you look on e-bay they can go for around $170 and you just need to buy a radio control. My cars dont run anymore, but they are still good display items especially with the rx-8 body =)

Nice Job! I painted my HPI body with a combination of a translucent silver color followed by black. It's not an exact match but the best I could do.

You spray lexan bodies from the inside so in effect you have a hard clear plastic coating like no other :p In other words these RC car bodies are clear plastic before you paint them.

The paint I use is called "Racing Finish" by Pactra. You should be able to purchase that from your local hobby shop.

doesnt the paint get chiped or scratched if you dont put clear coat? I mean over time like 3 months +... Im assuming this because that's what i experience..

the paint is on the underside of the car and it's lexan so it bonds to the body. The paint can get scratched off but it will not chip. I'm not sure what tamiya paint is but lexan paint is spray paint thats made for rc bodies. I havent had any paint chipping and I've had these bodies for about 6 years. no worries it will last you.

In all the years I raced RC I never experienced any problem with paint chipping or peeling. If you've ever seen an RC race the cars take a beating. You've get stalled cars on the track that get T-Boned at 30 MPH (60 MPH w/ gas cars) and the paint sticks. On the other hand the lexan will get smashed and even tear if hit hard enough.

Tamiya is spray paint for toy models. I think it comes in two types, one...used for RC that uses fuel (meaning it wont dissolve if it contacts fuel), and two...for display models. I have search racing paint but only Tamiya are available here. So that's why i use clear coat ;)
