i dont think ive ever read about anyone flushing out the fluids, i know disconnecting the battery is a must, instead of putting the car on jack stacks i think people lay out carpet on park it on that...but i guess you could put it on stands

put it on blocks, disconnect battery, put stabil in the fuel, seal up the tail pipes and intake, cover it, flush all the fluids out GOOD when you return

Okay, I did this back in the service when I went on a world tour. Put the car on jack stands, hook up a battery maintainer to the battery and leave it in, Fuel stabilizer in the tank. You will also want to put some moisture control deal in the car so it doesn't get that musky smell. I did this but I had my dad start the car and fully warm it up every couple of weeks. But my fathers garage opens on both ends so the exhaust fumes wasn't an issue.

After a little over the year my car did start up fine but it took a week or so for everything to get to normal. The car was squeaky and the tranny was rough for a week or so and you will definitely want to do a full tune up.

The best option though would be to garage it and just have someone drive it, check oil, etc. a couple times a month.

Or you could store it at my office and I can wash it, start it, etc. every now and then. Wouldn't be an issue for me but I know its your baby so you would probably want her locked up tight.

why aren't you going to drive it for a year? ^^ I was gonna say that, have someone you trust drive the car every couple of months and do the normal routines.....check oil, redline once when driving etc....

I think this is the approach I would take.
only thing I would do differently is give it a good wash before putting it in storage and thow a good indoor car cover on it.

sealing up the tail pipe and intake is a MUST as mice and other little rodents have been known to make homes out of our beloved RX-8's.

In addition to the fuel stabilizer, jack stands on the suspension (not the frame), and oil change just before storage, and battery maintainer

Fuel Stabilizer.
Jackstands on the suspension conrtol arms - not the frame.
Oil change just before storage.
Battery trickle charger.
Wash/Wax and car cover.
I also like to clean the engine bar and finish it off with some vinyl and rubber protectant - it'll keep the rubber and plastic moisturized and pliable through the colder months. In fact I spray all the rubber parts with some of the vinyl and rubber protectant/dressing (like exhaust hangers, engine mounts, wires/plugs).

Keeping the car like this will make sure she's happy when she's revived after a year. Just don't driver her hard for a while after she's awake.

Full tank of fuel as well, less air in there the better.

Dude, if I didn't have kids I would do it, come back, pay off car, and put a solid down payment on a house and be legit. **** I spent 4 years going back and forth for an 1/8 of what you will make. I just couldn't be away from my kiddos.

Leave it up to the other SA members to keep up with it for you. Just be sure to get a turbo for it before you leave... Just in case (or something like that).

I'd rather give it up to a family member to maintain and drive once or twice a week than let her sit idle.
