2009 RX8 R3 won't rev past 8k

Ok I just bought a 2009 rx8 r3. I know it's not the best idea put I wanted to see what it could do really quick so I decided to wined it out. What I noticed is that once I hit 7k it hasitates and It won't rev past like 8k or so. What could this be?

how 'warm'
It's not going past 8k after driving the car around for 15 minutes plus?. what gear are you trying to do this in?
you mention it's 'hesitating', can you be more descriptive?
is there a CEL on?
do you see anything blinking on your dash as you're trying this?

Yes they do but once they are warmed up the redline is at normal.

I haven't seen any cel or blinking. How warm is about 10 mins of warn up time and 15plus of drive time. Hesitating like there is no power at all

could be a few different issues but seeing as how it's an '09 it's a bit puzzling

Your car is probably misfiring due to something wrong in the ignition system; coils, wires, or plugs
Your cat could be clogged

I'm leaning towards ignition.
Ever flooded the car?
how many miles are on it?

ummm its because the car wont let you go above 7k .... it has a "break in" period up to 5000 miles

why?
The car SHOULD be able to go to redline the minute it rolls off the assembly line. Break-in shouldn't have anything to do with this.

I still say something is wrong.

^+1 on what Jedi said. I bought my car with 92 miles on it. As soon as I took it for a test drive I revd to 7k in my auto during the test drive but I didn't push it. Only once did I redline. The break in period is about 600 miles or so not 5000. Taught the dealer some important info on our cars.

Question also important how often does he drive/start his car??

Some of you are forgetting it is an '09 this guy is talking about. A lot has changed with the ECU programming...I believe Mazda finally got smart and tweeked the system so the new motor can't be f'd up right out of the gate.

I'm not forgetting it's an '09, but I haven't read that anywhere, have you?
The ECU programming refers only to temperature on the '09's, not mileage.

Didn't know better at the time but I couldn't help it had to try it redline mine 9k no problem before break-in '09 smooth with beep. It's obvious I'm no expert but this sounds fishy to me.

Still retarded to do it. I just hope you haven't been doing anything stupid because the dealer will see whats up. But definitely take it in.

Yeah, the replies here are insane. I say wait till 2000 miles, if it still wont redline go to a mazda dealer and tell them this VERBATIM.

Hi, I finished my break in period, and was trying to get to 9k RPM's and my car hesitates at around 7.5-8k. This is not normal, I think something is wrong, could you check it out please. Thank You.

If you tell them you've been redlining during break-in they will use it as an reason to void your warranty, and I will use it as an reason to laugh my *** off. Good luck.

The point of this thread isnt if he is retarded or not, its what is wrong with the car.

What IS retarded is saying that after the break in period it will magically hit 9k rpm. No.

I test drove three 09s at dealerships and guess what? Every one of them went to 9k and one even had MIAC, ha!

Should you be redlining yet? No. Should it hit 9k? Yes. Is something wrong with the car? Yes.

Definitiely something wrong. As the more insightful here cite the vehicle is capable of hitting the redline right off the assembly line.

I believe in proper break in periods, but we all know that someone probably test drove our new vehicles before we bought them and wound it out to redline, perhaps even a salesman.

Take it back for in-warranty diagnosis and resolution - simple.
