dillsrotary 10-29-2009, 09:01 AM Lee pitched a damn good game!
Tonight maybe a different story though with Pedro on the mound.
SideOfBacon 10-29-2009, 09:09 AM surprising outcome to say the least with the great CC Sabathia on the mount.
I say Philly in 6
icyur2 10-29-2009, 10:50 AM Yeah!! Go Philly!!!
Yankees suck!!!! <--- That team has waaaaaay too much $$ to throw around to attract "star" players..
Feras 10-29-2009, 11:12 AM down to arrogant sports franchises...yankees you ate a big one last night...maybe 2 for 2 tonight? i can't wait.
Jedi54 10-29-2009, 12:24 PM Cliff Lee was a god damn Monster last night! CC got into trouble early but seemed to settle in a bit but the way Lee was pitching, it didn't matter.
Tonight should be a different story though.
Gr8Bullet 10-29-2009, 12:29 PM didnt see the game. had school last night lol i might have work tonight so and a meet. lol might not see it again tonight.
RyansRx8 10-29-2009, 12:33 PM CLIFF LEE! Very Impressive...Loved it!
MICHGoBlue 10-29-2009, 06:53 PM Cliff Lee pitched a great game, I have a feeling Pedro might not do as well...
Anyone else find it funny the disparity in commercials between the World Series and NBA season kickoff?
It's Cialis and Lipitor for baseball, PS3 games and IPhone Apps for basketball...
Grungepup 10-29-2009, 08:10 PM WOO HOO GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
A-Flop is a cancer on every team he is on.... as long as the yankdeez has him under contract they will not win a WS
Grungepup 10-29-2009, 08:58 PM does that tool pitching for the yankdeez have the NY emblem tattooed on his glove hand?
nvrfalter 10-31-2009, 10:06 PM what the hell is andy doing
Jedi54 10-31-2009, 10:08 PM fucking up.
that's what he's doing!
:cussing:
shaunv74 10-31-2009, 10:09 PM For what it's Werth... Ooooooh!!
Grungepup 10-31-2009, 10:28 PM Down with the evil empire
HockeyRX-8 10-31-2009, 10:55 PM yanks are finally playing well
SideOfBacon 11-02-2009, 10:17 AM think its all but over for the phillies =(
Jedi54 11-02-2009, 12:36 PM Cav: time to update the 1st post.
Hell of a game last night!
I agree with Cav in the sense that it looks all but over for the Phillies right now but with their ace Cliff Lee heading up to the mound, they've got a chance to pull one out.
I thought CC started off a bit shakey last night but settled in quite nicely and threw a pretty darn good game.
A-Rod came up HUGE last night with that hit to left field.
SideOfBacon 11-04-2009, 12:15 PM game 6 tonight!
dshiznit1489 11-04-2009, 12:26 PM Yankees lost on purpose so they could take it home to the Bronx and win the series tonight.
Jedi54 11-04-2009, 01:01 PM Yanks are ending this thing tonight; talk about a perfect ending to the season!
Transam kid 01 11-04-2009, 09:58 PM Damn! Matsui is doing work! 6 RBIs in a 7 run game....
Gr8Bullet 11-04-2009, 10:02 PM Haha I haven't seen one game yet. Been to busy.
Mawnee 11-04-2009, 10:05 PM Yankees lost on purpose so they could take it home to the Bronx and win the series tonight.
QFT!
I told everyone they would lose that game on monday for just that reason.
Jedi54 11-04-2009, 10:56 PM Godzilla LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jedi54 11-04-2009, 11:51 PM (In my best Frank Sinatra voice)
Start spreading the news,
I'm leaving today.
I want to be a part of it -
New York, New York.
GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!
Transam kid 01 11-05-2009, 12:25 AM Woot!!
nvrfalter 11-05-2009, 09:12 AM wooO!! who's goin to the parade!?!!!
rglbegl 11-05-2009, 11:08 AM apparently it costs a little over $200,000,000 to buy the world championship title.
Yanks win 1/4 of all titles. Great competitive sport you got there.
Oops, I forgot; Its not a sport, its a passtime. A very, very VERY expensive passtime
Team 2008 payroll - 2009 payroll
Yankees $209,081,577 - $201,449,189
Mets $137,793,376 - $149,373,987
Cubs $118,345,833 - $134,809,000
Red Sox $133,390,035 - $121,745,999
Tigers $137,685,196 - $115,085,145
Angels $119,216,333 - $113,709,000
Phillies $98,269,880 - $113,004,046
SideOfBacon 11-05-2009, 11:11 AM costs exactly $200,000,000. the additional $8,097,414 is for 7,785,975 McDouble's (1.00 + 4% sales tax).
Grungepup 11-05-2009, 11:30 AM glad to see selig finally let the yankees buy another ws
SideOfBacon 11-05-2009, 11:40 AM baseball needs a salary cap. level the playing field and really find out the recruiting abilities of these teams, not based on how profitable an organization can be to just buy the best players on the market. look at what has happened to the dallas cowgirls after implementation of the salary cap. now the owner just wastes money on huge screens inside multi-billion dollar facility since he cant spend anymore on players.
CTrx8 11-05-2009, 11:41 AM the worst part about all of this is that i won't be able to avoid the madness. i have to go into NYC for work tomorrow with all of the obnoxious yankee fans. i'm just hoping to get out of the city early enough that the drunks will still be at the bars celebrating.

what is it with you and going to cities after teams win a championship?
oh, and all you little cry babies can suck it! Long live the Evil Empire! :evil_laug
RedRocket8 11-05-2009, 11:57 AM you have to admit though, if anyone else had the same payroll they would do the same, and anyone who says no is a liar. GO YANKS!
nvrfalter 11-05-2009, 12:07 PM yeah all you guys can suck it. take your bitching about salaries into another thread. this is a thread for winners
SideOfBacon 11-05-2009, 12:11 PM what is it with you and going to cities after teams win a championship?
oh, and all you little cry babies can suck it! Long live the Evil Empire! :evil_laug
bandwagoner? being you are from CA and excited the yanks won just baffles me.
i wasnt cheering on philly because I am a philly fan, i was cheering them on because im anti-yanks. you should have been cheering on the angels or the dodgers.
Jedi54 11-05-2009, 12:11 PM I take a very simplistic approach to this:
MLB rules allow a team to spend this kind of money if they so desire.
The Yankees are simply better at working within these rules then any other team out there.
Plain and simple.
Jedi54 11-05-2009, 12:14 PM bandwagoner? being you are from CA and excited the yanks won just baffles me.

No sir, a bandwagoner I am not.
My father grew up in Guatemala on a coffee plantation that his family owned and as a young boy he saved up all the money he could to buy himself a short wave radio so he could listen to the Yankee games live from the farm.
My dad has been a Yankee fan ALL HIS LIFE and as such I am too.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Angels and I root for them any time I'm at a game but when it comes to the Yankees, I just can't help but cheer for them.
SideOfBacon 11-05-2009, 12:17 PM of course a yankees fan because they were a winning organization back then. no actual ties to the location.
nvrfalter 11-05-2009, 12:21 PM why do you have to have ties to the location? i've been a gators fan forever and i've lived in jersey all my life. does it matter? why do you care so much what team jedi wants to win at a game
Jedi54 11-05-2009, 12:40 PM of course a yankees fan because they were a winning organization back then. no actual ties to the location.
cav: you completely missed the point.
do you know what life is like in a 3rd world country living on a coffee plantation in the mountains? You long for something better, something bigger. The Yankees were (and are to many) a sign of better things, a sign of greatness, a sign of hope.
why do you think the Yankees are one of the most recognized sports organizations in the world.
Emotional ties to a team are far greater then simply living in their town and calling yourself a fan.
oh, and BTW: I'm a die hard New Jersey Devils fan. You want to question my loyalty to that as well?
CTrx8 11-05-2009, 12:58 PM oh, and BTW: I'm a die hard New Jersey Devils fan. You want to question my loyalty to that as well?
question loyalty? no. question your sanity for liking anything from NJ? yes.
SideOfBacon 11-05-2009, 12:59 PM MIGHT have sounded kind of like an ass to you jedi and didnt mean it like that. its a great story how you shared those moments and make for great memories with/about your father. BUT, still, gotta see some of where I am coming from. you are SOMEWHAT different than MOST yankee fans across the nation. its funny looking at espn blog profiles you can pick your teams you are a fan of. some have like yankees, colts, florida gators, red-wings, celtics, and end up living in like wisconsin..
CTrx8 11-05-2009, 01:08 PM so who gets decide who you get to cheer on? is it based on location? that wouldn't be fair to all those living in michigan now would it (lions, pistons, wolverines :lol2: j/k, etc.)?
i grew up in NM watching and cheering for ND. does that mean that i am just jumping on the bandwagon? they were exciting to watch and i always loved that they could combine such high academics with elite sports. i also watched and cheered for the poor cubs so was that wrong? if so, i ended up going to ND and living in chicago (in fact, at 917 w. addison which is right across the street) so did i lose my bandwagon status?
people have a number of reasons to love and cheer on a team but who gets to choose what the right reason is?
SideOfBacon 11-05-2009, 01:12 PM cav: you completely missed the point.

bangwagoner :) :yesnod:

this is even worse than pro sports cheering on "winners" as a bandwagoner. college sports should tie more so to even living there. should actually be a student there...
Bullitt 11-05-2009, 01:15 PM BANGwagoner. haha
But +1 on the Boom.
Bullitt 11-05-2009, 01:20 PM I'm a hometown guy. Texas Strangers. Ouch. But wunnathesedaaayyyzzzzz.... I get the allure of the Yanks, tho. Such a rich history. My dad was a Yanks fan as a kid cuz of the Mick being from OK like him, and so why not? I went to Game 3 in the Bronx in 2001. Man, there's not much that compares. What an atmosphere.
Jedi54 11-05-2009, 01:23 PM yeah Cav, I do see your side of it as well. I'm sure I'll see tons of people sporting Yankee attire over the next few days that probably couldn't even tell me the name of the Yankee coach a week ago. (or even today)
Gr8Bullet 11-05-2009, 01:26 PM sankees won! wow i didnt even see one game on tv! haha
rglbegl 11-05-2009, 01:45 PM I take a very simplistic approach to this:
MLB rules allow a team to spend this kind of money if they so desire.
The Yankees are simply better at working within these rules From a larger city with more spectators than any other team out there. Which allows them to afford the high salaried players.
Plain and simple.
Fixed :icon_tup:
Jedi54 11-05-2009, 01:47 PM ^^^ :crying:
rglbegl 11-05-2009, 01:50 PM Again I say . . .
1 out of 4 titles have gone to the Yankers. Great competitive sport (passtime) you got there.
Sorry, baseball has lost all of its fun for me.
How many UFC fights would you watch if they pitted heavyweights against peewees every time? It would get old really fast, wouldn't it? (Yet we would still have the fans who liked to gloat about their fighter winning)
Jedi54 11-05-2009, 01:55 PM The Celtics have won 17 NBA Titles since 1950
Including winning 8 in a row.
Dont' watch basketball either?
rglbegl 11-05-2009, 02:04 PM Basketball has always had a salary cap, making it a level playing field.
Boston just happens to have better talent scouts than many other teams.
Basketball is a real sport too, one that takes true athletic ability.
Very different than a passtime. I dont even put them in the same ballpark.
Gr8Bullet 11-05-2009, 02:12 PM ^football is very athletic i played 4 years.

+1
same for the recent 90s and 00s for the wings. salary cap, ken holland is just one hell of a recruiter/scouter.

you forget who you're talking to.
Nothing beat playing Division I basketball. :)
dillsrotary 11-05-2009, 03:57 PM I'm going to the parade in downtown manhatten tomorrow.
As a proper Mets fan i'm going to boo the shit out of them lol.
(will post pics)
nvrfalter 11-05-2009, 04:21 PM this is even worse than pro sports cheering on "winners" as a bandwagoner. college sports should tie more so to even living there. should actually be a student there...
ok so let me get this straight:
because when i was 4 and i decided liked the gators logo and uniform and stuff, to follow them for the rest of my life would make my commitment to the team worthless and bandwagoning?? less than someone who likes them when they start going to college there and doesnt care about them when college is over?
Bullitt 11-05-2009, 05:21 PM ok so let me get this straight:

No, that's bangwagoning.
The Reverend 11-05-2009, 05:25 PM I think what cav is saying is if you didn't go to college you shouldn't be a sports fan.
JUST KIDDING
Bullitt 11-05-2009, 05:32 PM ^And also if you live in a state without any major teams.
