I agree with Cav in the sense that it looks all but over for the Phillies right now but with their ace Cliff Lee heading up to the mound, they've got a chance to pull one out.

I thought CC started off a bit shakey last night but settled in quite nicely and threw a pretty darn good game.

baseball needs a salary cap. level the playing field and really find out the recruiting abilities of these teams, not based on how profitable an organization can be to just buy the best players on the market. look at what has happened to the dallas cowgirls after implementation of the salary cap. now the owner just wastes money on huge screens inside multi-billion dollar facility since he cant spend anymore on players.

the worst part about all of this is that i won't be able to avoid the madness. i have to go into NYC for work tomorrow with all of the obnoxious yankee fans. i'm just hoping to get out of the city early enough that the drunks will still be at the bars celebrating.

I take a very simplistic approach to this:

MLB rules allow a team to spend this kind of money if they so desire.
The Yankees are simply better at working within these rules then any other team out there.
Plain and simple.

My father grew up in Guatemala on a coffee plantation that his family owned and as a young boy he saved up all the money he could to buy himself a short wave radio so he could listen to the Yankee games live from the farm.
My dad has been a Yankee fan ALL HIS LIFE and as such I am too.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Angels and I root for them any time I'm at a game but when it comes to the Yankees, I just can't help but cheer for them.

Emotional ties to a team are far greater then simply living in their town and calling yourself a fan.

MIGHT have sounded kind of like an ass to you jedi and didnt mean it like that. its a great story how you shared those moments and make for great memories with/about your father. BUT, still, gotta see some of where I am coming from. you are SOMEWHAT different than MOST yankee fans across the nation. its funny looking at espn blog profiles you can pick your teams you are a fan of. some have like yankees, colts, florida gators, red-wings, celtics, and end up living in like wisconsin..

so who gets decide who you get to cheer on? is it based on location? that wouldn't be fair to all those living in michigan now would it (lions, pistons, wolverines :lol2: j/k, etc.)?

I'm a hometown guy. Texas Strangers. Ouch. But wunnathesedaaayyyzzzzz.... I get the allure of the Yanks, tho. Such a rich history. My dad was a Yanks fan as a kid cuz of the Mick being from OK like him, and so why not? I went to Game 3 in the Bronx in 2001. Man, there's not much that compares. What an atmosphere.
