View Full Version : Does this seem reasonable for distributor replacement (97 Nissan Sentra)?

My around the town car is a previously owned 1997 Nissan Sentra with a 192,000 whopping miles. It is a 1.6L 4 with a 5 speed manual.

Car just died on me. Took it to the mechanic (not my 8's mechanic, but someone I have used before on the Sentra) and was quoted $420 ($370 parts/labor + 50 for diagnostic) cash price for fixing it.

I went and searched Google and this seemed to be the ballpark. The Bay Area tends to have higher prices for everything. The price for reman distributors varied - not sure how much labor it takes to put one in.

Thanks for your help!

Distributor can be had at www.rockauto.com for $206.00. Replacing a ditsro is pretty easy.

Get one from Junk yard. you can probably walk away with it under 50 bux.

install it yourself and save.

i once put my elbow on an open distributor while replacing a cylinder head on an e30.....

that was fun.

i learned to disconnect batteries after that.
