To all my fellow almost-in-Mexico-ans:

What are some of the better roads down here? Haven't wrung my RX-8 out in a while, and I don't like bending fast corners around town. Right now I'm limited to on and off-ramps, so I'm paying way too much in gas to be using my car as a commuter!

Looking for a place to hit up tomorrow or sometime this weekend, was looking for some advice from locals on interesting routes that don't have too much traffic.

So far, I'm thinking this:

8 East -> Sunrise Highway North -> Highway 79 South. Website I found that loop on says the peak of that triangle is about 10 miles south of Julian, which I hear has some more enjoyable roads?

I'm near downtown, so the closer to there the better, but willing to travel if it's worth it.

Here are a few ideas for ya. For some, I even have maps posted. There are quite a few roads around San Diego County. A couple even closer than the Mt. Laguna route you showed.

Old Hwy 80 route.

Please try to keep it on the track.. or at least safe on the streets. There is always autox at qualcomm.

i can't deny the fact that mountain runs are fun but if at all possible, keep it on the track.

Guess I'll have to echo the sentiment. I've never advocated crazy driving on the streets. Some spirited driving in the backcountry is great fun, just be aware of what is going on around you. But if you're going to push it, head to the road tracks or drags like Qualcom or Barona.

If ya really want to have some fun with your car, check out NASA. It's not that expensive, and you will learna lot.
