In the process of putting in some footwell lights, I accidentally crossed a couple wires that shouldn't have. One was from the circuit that gets power when the doors are opened or the locks are unlocked (commonly called the "dome light" signal). The other was from an ACC circuit, which I tapped from the back of the fuse panel in the driver-side footwell. I think it was fuse #3 (may have been #2).

Anyway, I had these two wires laying in the footwell while I was soldering some other stuff and getting ready to wire it all to a 3-way switch. When they touched, they got hot and I imagine they shorted something in the door switch (dome) circuit. Now, none of the lights come on when I open the door (activate the door switch), but the dome lights still work if I hit the buttons (the front map lights and the rear dome light).

I've been looking at the wiring diagram, provided to me by Rx-Appreci-8. On page 80, it details the interior lights circuit. I've checked the fuses in both the driver-footwell panel and under the hood. They all seem to be okay. I think this makes sense since I'm still able to use the map lights and the rear dome light. They work fine off the 15A "room" circuit, but they just won't activate via the door-switch signal. So, on the other end of the circuit, these go to the Keyless Control Module (pg 110-113). I've just started looking at the schematics for the KCM, but it looks like I'm not going to have an easy fix here. It might be that something internal to the KCM has fried and I will have to replace the entire unit.

Does anyone have any information that might help me here?

I think you probably done gone and "eradicated" your KCM.

Try pulling the connector off the Keyless Control Module (KCM) and grouding the signal from the Keyless Control Module to the courtesy lights (dark green wire with a black stripe if I recall correctly) If the lights come on then you've fried the KCM. If they don't then the problem is in the wiring. I'm assuming here that the KCM still unlocks the doors, flashes the exterior lights, etc. If it doesn't then check the fuse to the KCM.

PS. If the KCM is fried it might be repairable. Most likely you have just toasted the drive transistor for the courtsey light and might be able to just replace it. I haven't pulled my KCM apart to check on how feasible this is.

Yeah, everything else seems to work okay. It's just the "dome circuit" -- meaning that when the door switch is triggered, the two door courtesy lights, the two map lights, and the back interior light don't illuminate like they should.

One question about trying to ground the signal ... does the dome circuit use a true ground, or is it some relative ground value? I'd hate to ground it to the car and then overload another circuit somewhere.

Also, from the wiring diagrams, it looks like the KCM is somewhere under the passenger-side dash. It has 3 boxes labeled as KCM. I'm not sure if those are the connectors, or the actual KCM unit. Do you think it's up under the glove box? (I'll probably pull the dash panels off this weekend.)

The 3 boxes are the connectors, the KCM it self appears to be above the right hand side kick panel. From the circuit I'm making the assumption that the output of the KCM for the courtesy lights is a open-collector transistor to ground, so the output should be pretty close to ground when active. That output only drives lights so it shouldn't be a problem grounding that wire at the KCM connector to check the wiring.
