First I would like to apologize this couldnt have happened on a worse week with me being loaded down with mid terms in 4 of my 5 classes. Normally I would do all the research on my own and have more specific questions.

My girlfriends car was left on blocks monday in our apt complex. We've been talking for 2 years about getting her a car alarm looks like 2 years was too long.

On the bright side, the insurance company basically gave her a free pass to get whatever wheel she wants minus her deductable. So needless to say even though the car is still sitting on blocks we're going to come out ahead.

We started looking and she really wanted the Time Attack Volk TE-37s. They are discontinued and unavailable. So we then considered getting some TE's in black. Well due to the economy no one really stocks nice wheels like this any more so we're looking at like a 3-4 month wait to get these wheels.

So we found a set of black TE's 18X9.5 +22. At first I was like great, then i started thinking about that offset and realized it probably isn't realistic. I have read through a number of the "will it fit" thread posts but I simply am not very educated on wheel/tire sizes and what not so much of what is dicussed there is over my head.

That being said, if you had an 05 RX8 and were given the opportunity to get virtually any set of wheels you wanted what route would you go? Some criteria to this question would include... We're looking for a square setup we dont want to go staggered because we want to be able to rotate tires. We dont want to go 19's because 19 in tires are still quite out of this world in price

The car is stock ride height but we would like to slap a coilover setup on it at some point.

We're considering a number of different wheels. SSR Type C's, Advan RS/RZ, Volk TE-37's etc. She's more into the SSR's and Volks like the big six spoke look in general. Also need to know what tires to go with. Car is daily driven, and I want to be able to rotate so I would like to stay away from different profiles in front/rear.

TLDR?
Car got jacked, see pics. I don't know shit about wheel/tire setups and need a crash course during a week where Im cramming for 4 mid terms.
We can pick virtually any setup we want.
Want to stay square non staggered if possible with a stock ride height
Want to stick with 18's
Not opposed to rolling fenders
Interested in a set of Black Volks we found 18X9.5 +22(will they fit with what mods)
Will entertain suspension adjustments as well as camber kit requirements.
Will also need to know what tires to put on the setup as well. As I said before want to stay square so we can rotate.


What would you do? I understand Im the noobie coming in and asking questions that have likely been answered 14982402398 and for that I apologize I simply don't have the time I would like to research this in the manner I normally would.

First thing to mod on your car is the OEM shock sensor.

I think they run around $55. Bitch to install because of the location but it's worth it and you can adjust the sensitivity so it doesn't go off whenever a fart cannon drives by.

Absolutely, car alarms were purchsed for both my car and hers the same day this happend shock/tilt/glass break/remote paging etc. I also purchased a new handgun and ammo for our hunting rifle as well as our shotgun. God bless Texas.

Did she have wheel lock nuts?

Yes, we used two different sets of wheel locks. They even were nice enough to leave htem on the ground for us to use on our next wheels lol.

If I could have gotten a wider shot, you would see that the car is parked one spot from the gate everyone enters and leaves from. Her car is at my place over night maybe 4-5 times per month. I would assume they checked the car in the past for which locks it had, came prepared with 4-6 people and were in and out in about 5 minutes. Cops said the only critical part of this is when they're laying it on blocks other than that they can make it look normal as if they're simply doing work on the car. So they jack both the front and the back up, loosen the wheels remove them and lower it all at once and leave.

Its amazing no one saw it considering the traffic at that particular gate. Worst part is it had been broken for and still is broken for about about a week leading up to this. Apt complex is doing nothing to rectify the situation.

All the bases have been covered at this point. We're going to add a 3rd lock to the new wheels, park it in our garage when she stays over. Alarms were bought, conceal carry classes scheduled and so on.

I just hope the long arm of kharma treats these guys well.

Really sorry to hear this happened. The same thing happened to me, and OEM shock sensor was added immediately afterwards, shotgun migrated to the room overlooking the car etc. When this stuff happens you just have to rely on insurance, grit your teeth and try to make it less likely to happen again.

Yeah, the local car community here in dallas has been great, had a few people offer us some wheels to roll on until we figure out what to use, had some help getting it into the garage and what not.

I appreciate the sentiments it sucks when your hard earned money goes down the drain because someone else cant work for it.

If you are staying with 18's go with 245/40/18 with 18x8.5 +35

245\40\18 Are Tire Size
18x8.5 Is Rim size
+35 Is offset.

The style of Rim, and Type of Tire are up to you, depends on what you like and weather conditions etc.

I personally would recommend 18x9.5 Enkei's... light, beautiful, and amazing handling with some 265/35/18s. If you get heavier than stock wheels you won't enjoy them as much as a set of wheels that give you less rotating mass and look good.

Well we're looking at even lighter setups, Volks/Advan/SSR's. Most of these wheels are in the 1pd/1inch range. Enkeis were on it before and they weighed around 22-23pds IIRC. 18x9.5 is what we're thinking as well for size.

Some enkei models (rpf1 and nt03) weigh less than 20lbs for the 18x9.5 size, just fyi.

if you have a free pass do something sick man, some CCW's, HRE, Kinesis, Work, Ame, if money wasn't an object and I was sticking with 18's maybe going with baller Mazdaspeed magnesium wheels would be the ticket. Don't get me wrong, I like Enkei's and Volk's, but if I only had to pay a deductible I'd be stretching the buhjeezus out of it with something I know I won't see on another car for months or years even ;)

actually, an alarm won't matter anyway if you really want to be negative about it, if someone really wants your stuff bad, there's nothing that will get in their way, alarm or otherwise, just depends on the thief and how bad they want something. That said, I wouldn't let them dictate my wheel choice, why live in fear like that and let them win? go for whatever you want and be happy with it, if they get stolen again then oh well, sooner or later karma or the law or both will catch up to them anyway.

Enkei's were on it before, and they have vowed to put it in a garage when possible. Also they are in texas, which means an Alarm can soon be followed with a Bullet. I say they will be ok.

My main concern is that damn gate not being locked. I would check your lease agreement and discuss the fact that this could be a great opportunity to break your lease since your landlord isn't maintaining the grounds as agreed to. If that is in fact the case.

Thank you for your concern. Previously in the post I did in fact state we'd be changing how it was parked here. Bottom line really is the car was parked within view of our balcony and about 40 feet away in front of a highly trafficed gate. So you're absolutely right, these theives had some balls. Laws in Texas dictate that your property is not only your home but your vehicle and use of deadly force is extended as such. I've tested the alarm since purchase, I stayed up 24 hours to make sure I would be dead asleep and had my roommate set the alarm off. The alarm itself woke me up not to mention the loud ass annoying siren on my key chain. I am a fantastic shot and could hit arms and legs with ease from the distance it was parked at not to mention the tires and engine of the getaway truck. That is assuming we parked there again which we won't...Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

That being said, we were talking about the Mazda Speed Magnesium wheels but they were priced at something like 1600 dollars a wheel, add decent tires and we run the risk of totaling the vehicle lol..... I do however really like the style and wonder if another company makes it not to include the Rota Slipstream.

I basically just got an awesome quote on 4x AME FS-01s any color at 18x9 +31 offset for $1199.00 shipped.

And they had a few sets in stock too.....so no wait like the Volks or Work Wheels.

If money was NO object, dude get the MAZDASPEED Magnesium wheels! They are light as SHIT! Or a set of Dymag carbon fiber wheels....talk about baller haha

Did some research on the Mazda Speed wheels, turns out Magnesium wheels arent the best idea to daily drive as they corrode very quickly.

It is looking like we're going to go with some SSR Type C's. Now to choose tires.

If you plan on getting expensive wheels you better have other wheels to swap out during the time you are not driving it... so ppl that have Hi Priced Rims dont DD on them.

and yeah if someone was watching your car the first time they are going to watch it again and most likely steal them again..... IMHO... if they want your whole car they will take it.... and ill be the first to buy the driver fender off EBAY... so be carefulll

Bridgestone Potenza RE01R's are what I have, and they are amazing! They were just discontinued and replaced by the RE11's, which is what I would get if I were you. Good luck.

I just posted in the will it fit thread asking about tire sizes.

We decided to go with the Seibon TE37's in 18x9.5. I read in that tread that 255 in front and 275 in rear are about as large as we can go. Not currently interested in lowering the car but if they look rediculous on the car then we might cross that bridge. That being said, we'd like to go square and a lot of people are suggesting 245/40 as the way to go. I'd like to protect the wheel as much as possible but also take into consideration the work necessary if we decide it needs a drop.

Regarding the theft, we got a call from the Dallas PD investigators office last week and are waiting on more follow through. They may have caught the people who did it, but I guess there are more hurdles to jump on their part.

You guys have been a big help in a hectic time for us and I thank you for that.
