Ok so I finally got fed up with the inneficient search tools of the forums.

I'd like to grab a domain, such as rx8wiki.com, and grab the metric tons worth of information off the forums, and throw them into a wiki to get all this data organized properly, inter-linked, etc. so that it's easier to find & search instead of having it be this massive clusterfuck of everything being hidden pages and pages deep in a thread/forum and what not where only the older members know where to find it.

What say ye?

have fun, i think its a great idea in principle, i also think its a shitton of work that will be thankless and full of headaches.

I don't think I could have said it any better. Great idea, but will it be worth it?

I'd like to think it will be worth it to compile a large amount of data in an easy to read way.

I'm willing to put in the time and effort, I've already got the site half set up:

www.rx8wiki.com

I was also wondering if any of you guys would want to contribute a bit with grabbing info and carrying it over, or maybe even just pointing out certain pieces which are very useful and which aren't stickied.

Obviously the DIY section is going to be invaluable as well.

that would be an awsome site if the searches where easy an if there was some sort of table of contents

I'm in. Great idea. A nights + weekends thing for me, but I am 100% willing to help. It wouldn't be such a great idea if it was easy to find stuff here. You can find stuff, but it is often sure as hell not easy. The search tool could use a massive updating in terms of not locking out certain words, forcing adds or subtracts from results, being able to select and vs or for your phrasing, string searches rather than just word searches, etc...

And then there is the loads of crap that will get returns as well as the good stuff. Newbies have a much harder time sorting through the flames, jokes, sarcasm, and emoticons to find the real information than we do. Very few stickes keep the opening post in good summary.

I have been slowly beginning collection work on an interactive troubleshooting guide, like a 'select your symptoms' returns possible causes with likelyhood of that being the case, with other symptoms to look for to confirm or not. Wiki could house this interlinking some, though I don't know how well.

I made an account for when this gets rolling and I can find any info to move over :)

I'm glad to hear you guys want to help out :)

I'm hoping to have the site pretty much done this weekend, running into a few problems with my host, so need to clear that up.

That's pretty much why I decided to do this, the search tools don't work very well, and that's just a vBulletin thing.

The Wiki software is the same as the Wikipedia site, so there will definitely be interlinking and all, which I think can make a tremendous difference in making things easy to find & read and facilitate learning for new owners, or even older owners who just want to brush up on certain things.

Account created. I will keep tabs on it over the next week to see where you are and as stuff gets lined up. I'll probably have input on layout and such. Can't wait to start adding content :)

I'm a n00b / lurker, but really happy to see this. I have been looking for something similar, and believe that this could be a great resource.

I'm probably not going to change the layout right now, I want to get a logo up, but what I really want to focus on for now is content, get as much as possible online, start inter-linking everything, building up the database, etc. ;)

Put up first article:

http://www.rx8wiki.com/index.php?title=Owner_FAQ

Still tweaking it, site's working. I need to start putting up together the basic guides and stuff for those of you who may not know how to use the Wiki editor properly and wish to contribute.

I haven't come up with a good logo yet..
