View Full Version : Compression checker... kersh4w 10-12-2009, 06:42 PM does anyone have one? its possible my motor may be toast. DJ.NADA 10-12-2009, 07:20 PM You can buy one at autozone for $30. you can use the one for piston its the same shit. compression tester works the same if number reach 90 or over compression is good. under 90 it suck / under 60 really sucks bad. my motor when 2 weeks ago i went and brought a compression tester for piston engine. it works good......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U8iNb21arw first-rotary04 10-13-2009, 10:48 AM hey kersh, if you decide to use the piston engine one, let me know I have one that you can use. Mazurfer 10-13-2009, 10:54 AM Just got me to thinking if Twisted is still selling this one and how it's working out. Guess I need to go read through the thread now. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=172238&highlight=compression+tester kersh4w 10-13-2009, 11:41 PM isnt that one $200? jaime, did you buy a piston engine compression checker at autozone? first-rotary04 10-14-2009, 05:52 AM isnt that one $200? jaime, did you buy a piston engine compression checker at autozone? nah, I bought mine a while ago from somewhere else. BTW, Autozone doesn't sell snap on tools. :lol2: Phil's 8 10-14-2009, 07:38 AM Just got me to thinking if Twisted is still selling this one and how it's working out. It does all three positions - not sure how to do that with a piston unit. NgoRX8 10-14-2009, 12:50 PM You essentially watch the needle bounce in each chamber. Need to remove or hold open the valve that holds the pressure in. Problem is you don't get an RPM reading so you can't always correlate it to the condition of your engine. RX927 10-14-2009, 11:43 PM ^^^ He speaks the truth. The piston compression tester doesn't account for RPM which makes a world of difference in numbers. Plus removing the Schroeder valve can make it messy/inaccurate. Be 100% and get it done by mazda or buy a rotary specific one. I have a Mazda rotary compression tester but you would have to come up to North Jersey to use it. No charge of course. alz0rz 10-15-2009, 12:00 AM ^ you do?? wtfux! i wants your services TeamRX8 10-28-2009, 05:42 PM I just bought the Rotary Diagnostics multi-rotor tester. I wanted more than just a peak measurement tool. This one runs on a laptop and displays the full compression cycle curve, which tells you a lot more about what's going on inside the engine http://rotarydiagnostics.com/ . alz0rz 10-28-2009, 05:45 PM /\ thoughts? carbonRX8 10-28-2009, 06:14 PM Kersh, you can use mine. Just swing by and pick it up. Or we can check it here on the weekend. kanundra 10-28-2009, 06:45 PM Sorry to hear about your motor, I've been meaning to check mine. It feels strong but you never know. |
