Hi Guys,
Took the car for a drive today, car was idiling fine in the garage and accelerated great for the first 1km, then went rough. It was maxing out at about 55 km/h. A CEL code was being thrown when l was in the low RPM. Also the engine just sounds terrible. To me it sounds as if a plug has died or a lead (or a ignition module maybe?). Plugs where only replaced roughly 6 weeks ago. Also there is a weird, l'd say burnt oily, smell from the engine bay. Again, l think this leads to leads/plug e.c.t.

Is there any way l can pull the CEL code myself?

Any ideas? I have no spare ignition leads or modules, so l can't test with them. Unless l use the leads of another car?

Cheers.

Coils? Fuel pump?

Give the vehicle info, miles, etc.

04 Auto with about 110,000 km (30-40,000 km on the new motor).

That sucks, my old car, you could bridge two connectors on the OBD port, and the CEL would flash the code. No need for a reader then...

We have automotive places like Autozone that would read the code for free.
Do you have an equivalent shop around you?

Yeah, my mechanic would. However, now the car won't start and the CEL and Battery light is on (or it is that normal?).

I might swap the leads round and see if that makes a difference.

Swap what leads around :(

You don't want to hook up the battery backwards....unless you want to blow fuses..or the ECU

If you think it's backwards...check the main fuse and the fuses in the underhood fuse panel....

I was thinking the ignition leads. Swap the leading to the trailing. Maybe it's just my leading???

Hey guys,
Problem has been fixed. I've bought new coils (from Brice) and leads (from Ray/BHR) and it has done the trick. Looks like it was just the coils, but it doesn't hurt to change the leads at the same time, especially to some sexy MSD ones:
