Thanks. I have been driving bier wagens for 9 years and this is my second Japanese car, The Acura being the first. I heard alot of the JDM stuff on the RSX forums but never bothered to ask. Again thanks for edumucating me!

Not quite - JDM started out meaning factory equipment on cars sold in the Japanese domestic market. For example, Honda used to put nice little twin-cam 4 valve engines in their Japanese market Civics, but only single cam engines in North American market Civics. A popular transplant was to obtain one of the Japanese Domestic Market Civic engines and install it in a North American Civic.

To be very clear - "JDM" only applied to FACTORY parts sold as original equipment on Japanese market vehicles. Japanese aftermarket parts were not JDM, they were simply Japanese aftermarket.

In the past 2 or so years, the use of the label "JDM" has been perverted by vendors who want to get in on the great reputation the term has developed (courtesy Honda, primarily). They have had some success in popularizing the use to include anything sold by Japanese aftermarket vendors. Consequently, the term JDM now has lost most of the prestige and mystique it once held, except with a group of young trend-followers who worship anything with a "JDM" label stuck on it, no matter how crappy that part might in fact be!
