View Full Version : Need Help in getting wheels for my 8
rclios 01-11-2004, 01:08 PM hi people out there, just booked a 8, a basic auto infact as my gal dont like the hassle of changing gears. didnt book the type E as i plan to put on some bodykits and didnt like the original 18" wheels.now i am thinking of changing the 16" to 18", but i'm not sure of the size.wat i mean is would 18" be ok for the car and its suppose to be 18" X ? and wat about the offset?
wanted the type E actually but we are thinking of using the cash difference between the 2 models to dress up the car, then we didnt like the colour as much, thirdly didnt like the original 18" wheels too. another question is would the type E be much better than the basic.
thks for answering my questions.
Naughty Boy 01-11-2004, 07:48 PM Hi rclios.
From what I know, 18" will fit. Type E gets you leather seats & airbags behind (in a silver backing/casing). Not that good if u wanna put after market seats (e.g. buckets). Also not good if u going to change colour of car as u will be limited to matching (unless u choose black leather).
Whatever... Congrats, good luck & enjoy yourself!
Daverx 01-11-2004, 08:01 PM Hi rclios
Welcom to the club....
18" would be a better choice, of coz consumption would definitely increase...type E comes with accessories compared to the the basic.....
btw when is your delivery?....
cheers.....:p :p :p
rclios 01-11-2004, 09:23 PM hmm...but i also know that the basic auto does not come with dsc and lsd, the suspension of the type E is also different from the basic, windscreen and mirrors of type E are water repellant, and more, which puts me in a dilema too.but anyway did'nt want to overload the installment every mth and thought if buy basic then more worth to upgrade bodykits, suspensions, bucket seats and more.no point paying for type E then want to change again.
mine 8 is not a special indent basis unit so if nothing goes wrong with th eloan and insurane should be before CNY....
pity bodykits not in yet else could really dress the car up be CNY.
rclios 01-11-2004, 09:26 PM oh yes, i am not so concern with the consumption as i have long know that sometimes larger alloys would cause more consumption only thing is i need the correct size. is 18" X ? and the offset.hope someone can really help
Daverx 01-11-2004, 09:26 PM Hi rclios.....
dsc stuff....optional items...u can request but for a fee.....
rclios 01-11-2004, 09:48 PM hi DaverX
mine is a ready stock so car doesnt come with dsc n lsd. besides didnt want to overload monthly instalment either.anyway any idea about the size of the alloys?
cheers
Hiya,
I think the size of 18"x 8", 50 mm offset.
rclios 01-11-2004, 11:26 PM Hi UG_8
so wat size r u running on? dontmind which model u r driving too?
Hiya,
Wheels are still stock standard...only change to HKS Hipermax II coilovers...but quite a harsh ride. Have not check whether damping is to the softest or not.
Me driving a black Type S.
I still have the Type S sports suspension ... u interested?
rclios 01-11-2004, 11:49 PM Hi UG_8
Black Type S....wow like the type s but a bit heavy on my instalment and its manual thats the worst cos my gal hates it....anyway i heard type E has sports suspension too?so is ur sports suspension the same as type E? well i am interested to change to HKS suspension leh but havnt check out the cost yet.wats the cost if u dont mind since u change already?if too ex then maybe wait for a while . is the type S sport suspension gd for city ride?dont plan going track with this baby cos my gal wouldn't want to.she had a share in it too....no choice....so i really dont mind the type S suspension if its good for city rides. Maybe we good meet up after i get my ride....soon....
Hmmm think the Type E suspension is the same as the Type S ones. Let me check ....
Fab 8 01-12-2004, 12:35 AM Type E has a softer suspension setting, I think. But there is an option for Type E buyers to choose the Type S suspension.
UG, well done on the HKS! Any other mods coming soon? Have been resisting so far (or rather, wallet has been resisting...) :p
rclios, the Type S suspension is fine for city driving. Firm enough for excellent handling, yet supple enough to absorb the bump-thumps.
rclios 01-12-2004, 12:50 AM Fab 8
hi there, can u advise regarding the alloys?i wanted to change to 18" but i really dont know the actual size and offset. thks
Hi Fab 8,
Well after changing to HKS kindof missing my Sports suspension. As mentioned, need to tune the damping to the softest to test. Now feeling every bump on the road, but on high speed cornering and cruising...wah damn stable.
So rclios...interested in the sports suspension. Hmm u strange leh, I thought I told you the stock 18" wheels are 18"x 8" at 50 mm offset.
rclios 01-12-2004, 01:04 AM UG_8
i actually check around also but i think the offset for stock is different from aftermarket alloys...think front and back wheel different also/....
rclios 01-12-2004, 01:05 AM UG_8
oh yes think i might be interested in your sports suspension but gotta consult my CFO first....anyway after i get my ride will talk to you again....should be somewhere end of the week...
Hiya,
After market alloys usually comes in offset 48...I guess the speedo is out for a bit. If you check the tyre section, guess a lot of the US guys are on different offset and some even put their rear wheel to be on 265 or 275, as compared to our puny 225.
If you are interested in the suspension just msg me lor...the set is still at the tyre shop....
Fab 8 01-12-2004, 03:55 AM rclios, UG is right abt the offset on the stock 18" rims.
Anyway, you can change to 18" without any problems. If you keep the overall diameter abt the same, your speedometer should be ok. Offset - not too agressive or you may have a harsher ride. Not too wide too or may end up with higher consumption, tramlining, and possibly rubbing on the arches.
rclios 01-12-2004, 06:04 AM fab 8
hi there,i understand that 18" should not have any problems but wat i dont understand is the offset....i really have no idea wat u mean by agressive...if upgrading to stock 18" i know is no problems.wat i am worried abt is aftermarket alloys....thanks!!!
cheers

Technical explanation of offset can be found here (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm)
By aggresive, I mean offset that will result in the wheels sitting much further out such that they are sitting flush with the arches or even protruding slightly.
For aftermarket alloys, I think as long as you are not too different from the stock 18" offset, you shld be alright.
rclios...aggressive = tyres sticking out...like having a very thich tyres.
rclios 01-12-2004, 08:32 AM thanks fab 8
thanks UG_8

KumendaRX8 01-13-2004, 02:18 AM Hi there,
this is Marco.
I was Sunday at East Coast with Black AT with fornt sticker n.plate.
The rims I have are 18 inch K-speed and I have front and rear Goodyear RevSpec 235/40ZR18.
I did this modification more for aesthetic porpouses than for handling but I have to admit that the car goes very well and I do not feel too many bumbs.
This is just my personal experience.
Ciao
Marco

hi just guessing lar.urs is mica red or velocity red?ur 18" is wat offset? ur front offset and rear offset the same? ur volks is which model....me looking at the volks too....deciding between ce28 or gt7
cheers
rclios 01-13-2004, 08:24 AM marco hi....
black AT...looks gd but i force myself not to get black...cos my dad and bro cars already black..actually my english not too good so what do u mean by for aesthetic purposes?u mean just for nice? i think the max for the front is 235...but rear can go up to 265....thinking of putting front 235 and rear 265 but then offset for front and rear would be different.haiz....dilema as if different tyres front n back then cannot do tyres rotation... hv u change ur suspension?btw urs type E or basic...mine basic so i looking into suspension too
rclios 01-13-2004, 08:26 AM RX8_666
hi forgot to ask u which model u driving....mine is basic so i wanna change suspension as well.i think type S & E got the same sport suspension right?hv u change suspension?
KumendaRX8 01-13-2004, 07:39 PM hi rclios,
yes, I did them "for nice".
No, I did not change my suspensions, I think about it only if I am going to track, which at the moment I am not considering.
Yes, my car is basic, maybe I will put leather when the fabric starts to look lousy.
Ciao
Marco
rclios 01-13-2004, 11:37 PM KumendaRX8

i have done the aftermarket leather via jackspeed and can say they have done a good job. I spec the red and black interior..seems quite close to the original.
