Yes it's for PS2 and only PS2, and it's due out in July last I heard.

EB has 4/30/04 as the tentative shipping date. By then the PSX should be out in the states so GT4 and PSX should be a nice combo. PSX is a good excuse to get one of those personal video recorders that just so happens to play games.

PSX is a PS2 with a personal video recorder in it (hard drive VCR). Just another way for Sony to try and milk the PS2 until the PS3 comes out in 2005 or 2006.

I will buy one for sure... My PS2 is otherwise gathering dust

I also got a gamecube and have so many games that don't come out on any other consoles!! hehe :p
And the ones that do come out on others are better on the gamecube (maybe except for SOME Xbox versions) so I'm very happy with it! :D
Oh, and I can play any gameboy game ever conceived on my TV using the Gameboy Player, it's great!

I may have to buy a ps2 when GT4 finally comes out. Maybe it'll have the turbo Gen 1 RX-7 from GT2. :drool:

That's good to know that there is a little more to this PSX than just the PVR to justify the likely $299 price point. Ebay pre-orders are being sold at $350. Here's a pic of the unit.

I think your $299 price is slightly ambitious.
I also would be leery about the e-bay "pre-orders".

I guaranty you it won't be $900 and $700. You can't simply take the yen price divide it by the yen/dollar exchange rate LOL. They'd sell about 50 of them in total throughout the entire United States at that price LOL.

Remember this product is competeing with DVD Recorders/PRV's such as TiVo not video game systems. These things are easly going for around $1000 and those only have 80Gb hard drives so I wouldn't be so suprised if they do sell for anywhere from $700-$900. With the features it has and the products it will compete with they will sell at that price.

We shall see soon enough. I believe the PSX is supposed to hit the U.S. in the next month or so. I'd buy one but not for more than $300. Anything more and I'll just buy a PS2 to play GT4.

i already reserved my copy of GT4 at gamestop... payed $15.. and ill keep paying 10 a month... so by the time it arrives ill be the one of first one to own.. it...

If you don't want/need any of the other features and just want to play games that is most likely the best way to go. I can almost guarantee that it will be over $300. Remember they are still going to sell the PS2.

The majority of console sales are upgrade sales...i.e. most owners of PS2 or XBOX owned a previous gaming system. Present console owners WILL NOT spend that much for another system.

And if you aren't a gamer, there really is no reason to buy a PSX because if you're primarily interested in the PVR or DVD capabilities, there are much better alternatives out there.

The PSX is targeted at gamers plain and simple...so it better hit the gamer's price point or it will not sell.

I disagree with your assessment on the target for the product. Also at this price there really isn’t anything that is a better alternative. Most are around $1000 and don’t have nearly as large a hard drive and they require a monthly subscription (TiVo).
So basically you get a PVR/DVD-Recorder for a much better price with the bonus ability to be used as a video game console. This thing WILL SELL plain and simple. But if your only reason for a PS of any type is to play GT4 and the RX8 don’t buy one get a PS2.

I got the GT4 Prologue....(preview/demo of GT4, no career mode)
It's a reallllly nice game....
Amazingly, it's a LOT better than GT3.
They did change some of the physics from GT3....
Heavy cars feel a lot heavier than what they did for GT3......

The RX8 feels pretty good, the convertible Z just won't turn because of the weight.
Of course the McLaren F1 just smokes them all.

Oh....for you Gran Turismo fans out there.....if you hit the walls hard, you will be speed limited to 50 kph for 10 seconds. OUCH!

At least that's what's in Prologue. They can easily change whatever they want before then.

Can't wait for the full GT4 game.
Until then, Need For Speed Underground will have to tide me over....

Does NFS have the RX-8? BTW do you have a PS2 wheel? Or do you just use the gamepad?

No NFS Underground "DOESN'T" have the RX8.......

Also for people like me that have a tv/dvd/monitor in there ride. The PSX is perfect!

When I get it, I will be able to play games, watch tv, play dvds, and set up a camera to film stuff, and record it all~ SO HAHAHAH

just got me a racing wheel from logitech, Driving Force Pro.... it is awesome...

Can't wait for GT4!!
