View Full Version : Leather E brake handle install

For those of you considering getting the leather e-brake handle, I just finished installing mine and found the install easier than expected. It took just over an hour. I didn't remove the console. I just got it completely loose and manipulated it around to reach all the brake handle bolts. That saved a lot of time. I think the hardest part was making sure I didn't scratch anything when removing and reinstalling the passenger seat. If you're not a wrencher you may want to have a mechanic tackle this one. I think it looks much better than the stock rubber handle. $180 better? Probably not, but if you went for the red or brown leather seats you will probably will want it too.

TheDosDog,

Thanks for the info. Be sure and take some pics if you can. Been thinking about one of these myself. Were there instructinos on removing the console? I know I still want to take out the rear storage cover to dye it blue. But the little I've looked looks like I need to take out the entire console (center piece in interior) to get it out.

Any advise on this would also be apprecaitate.

That is kind of why I left the console in. It is one big piece and I didn't want to chance scratching it. I'm sure it must break down but I couldn't tell where.

The rear console cover top can be removed without removing the console. It's in 2 pieces, a top piece that is just snapped on and a lower piece that has the hinge and latch. To remove the rear cover push down and to the right on the top of the cover while pulling up on the right edge, it should pop right off.

The leather handbrake looks good, getting the same colored shift knob will round it out nicely.

TheDosDog was kind enough to send me a copy of the instructions.

Zoom2x,

Are we talking about the same piece? I tried to pop this out when I did my interior. It's the piece I grayed in the pic. Sorry, not getting what you are describing.

Yeah that's the piece. Leave it latched closed and press down and towards the side of the car while lifting on the edge you are pressing towards and it will pop right off. There are 3 plastic snap down hooks on each side of the cover. The idea is to bow the cover backwards slightly to clear the plastic hooks. It was in the instructions for my red leather console covers that I got for Christmas. (Sorry I don't have a scanner or I'd send a copy of the instructions)
