Check out the Mazdausa website North American Auto show. There is a RX-8 transformer that takes you on a journey of that website. It's an RX-8 that turns into a warrior robot. It looks like it will be for sale by Hasbro soon. I'm definitely getting one for my 4 year old. He wanted me to get a red rx8 instead of my silver one anyway. The transformer is red, so hopefully he will be happy!

You may want to browse through eBay's selection of RX-8 diecast models. I got one for my nephew thats 'Winnning Blue'. He's thrilled to have a car like mine!

Yeah, I know. But some of them have transitioned very nicely.

The Datsun Z cars (Smokescreen, Silverstreak, Prowl) are now Subaru WRX STi's

The Jeep (Hound) is an updated Jeep

The Lamborghini's (Sideswipe, Red Alert, Sunstreak) are now 2003 Viper RT/10's.

People that are really into the Transformers believe that the RX 8 Alternator (Alternators are the Transformers toy line that are detailed cars that actually transform into robots) is the Transformer Jazz from Generation 1 due to the similarities of that character and the robot. The other Alternator cars are the Subaru WRX STI and a Dodge Viper. If you goto http://www.transformers.com you can view them there I believe. I as a fan of the RX 8 and as a fan of Transformers would probably get one. Most likely the Japanese version if its made out of die cast metal and probably the Hasbro American version as well.

Absolutely! .. I'm pumped. I have so many Transformers from my childhood ... and Jazz ... he was one of my favorites so I do hope it is him. I remember I played with that one so much I broke one of the doors off :( .. well I will have a new improved Jazz. Definitely will be watching for that to be released.

Its pretty cool and will join my toy/rotary stuff collection.

I'm guessing that "Jazz" is the name that was assigned to a previous similar transformer. I didn't know they had names. Are transformers sold in Toys r Us etc., when they start making these things? Whenever someone buys one, could you post here so I'll know?

They still do. They are called the "Japanese Binal Tech Metal Version". Which you can import or get from ebay when they are released. You better believe I'll be ordering the good one to sit on my desk

if you look at the above picture, the picture of a transformed RX-8, and teh Viper you will notice that they all transform exactly the same...all of them use the front doors as wings, the trunk as feet, the engine compartment as the chest, and the head comes out of the hood...

The RX-8 alternator will be released in September 2004. No name has been given yet. You can find a link to pre-order it here www.tfw2005.com. However, I'd wait until it hit stores shelves. You can pick up the Alternator line ar TRU or Target.

I think I'll write Hasbro and suggest the name 'Floods'

Just got this from another mailing list: That animation is actually going to be a REAL transformer. Hasbro's Japanese arm, Takara, has been working up a series of updated transformers toys that have only recently been in production called Alternators. These aren't your standard little plastic transformers though, they are die-cast pieces and VERY detailed. How do i know? Well I happen to own the BT-01 Smokescreen Subaru WRX toy :-) Yeah, I am pretty much a huge nerd; I know. Anyway, the RX-8 model has yet to be named, but it is supposed to be released in Japan in September, and you can probably get one from a company that imports such things. I've use Hobby Link Japan before (www.hlj.com) and had no problems. Anyway, the BT-01 is a Subaru WRC car and the BT-02 car is a Dodge viper, and I believe both are available now. Not sure what the other cars will be, but I think one is supposed to be a C6 vette, and there is the RX-8.
