So I drive down to Putnam Mazda in Burlingame, CA to gather info on pre-ordering an 8. The moment I park, a gentleman stepped out and greeted me, asking if I was interested in a car today. I told him I was interested in pre-ordering an RX-8. (on a sidenote: When asked, I insisted I was NOT trading in my 7) We walk into his office and he proceeds to take down my name and number. He then hands me a card and says he'll call me when they recieve their first shipment. WTF? I asked, "What about building and pricing?", "What about putting a down payment?", and "Are you even taking deposits?" I literally stood there with my $500 in-hand and would have gotten more if he had asked for it, but he said something about not being able to do anything until they know what VINs they're getting. He then went on talking about brochures and stuff but I was already deafened by the shock. I shrugged my shoulders and said, "Oh well then" before leaving. Anyone else have this kind of experience? Especially at Putnam Mazda?

I think I'll call Marin Mazda tomorrow to see what they say. Sheesh.

My guess: They are ordering all their cars in themselves for the lot to put $3,000 adjustments on them. He knew what the deal was...

Funny how they wanted over MSRP for 350Zs just four months ago, now you can get them under MSRP. Pity the fools who paid over... and curse them for making us wait by paying it!

If you are in Bay Area, you are mostly out of luck.
