Any Given Sunday without a doubt. I know many people that hate the movie, but as a huge football fan, I think this film gives the most realistic portrait of modern-day NFL football. It depicts the greed, starpower, hedonism...and has a classic storyline of a young gun QB stealing the limelight from an injured old-timer, and they're all playing for beleagured Al Pacino, the best coach on film ever. Plus Cameron Diaz as the owner - who could ask for more?? But, above all else, Any Given Sunday shows football as the warfare that it is - the comparisons with gladiator sports of Roman times - I love it.

Agree with your comments, noah, but Burt Reynolds in Longest Yard was just so damn much fun. "Mean machine, mean machine!"

Yeah, the Longest Yard is probably 2nd for me

I wish you could make a poll that lets you pick your 2 or 3 top favorites. As it is, you have to say "Pick 1" or "Pick as many as you want." That sounded too much like anarchy to me.

At the start of every football season, I sit back with a brew and enjoy Any Given Sunday - fast forwarding through the lockerroom scene ,of course. This movie rocks and puts you in the mood for Football.
BTW - GO EAGLES!

Any Given Sunday hands down...Al Pacino was brilliant in that movie as he is in most of his movies except for the one he played the blind guy and was auctioning off to eat some type of endangered species...forgot the name

Again I'm confused; Any Given Sunday only has 2 votes, one's mine and one I assume is ang's...are you voting in these polls or just replying with your choices? Also I think you're confused on the Pacino movie you're talking about - in Scent of a Woman he plays a blind man; as for eating an endangered species, I think you're thinking of The Freshman starring Matthew Broderick and Marlon Brando?

good catch...i dunno how but i got those two movies completely mixed up, err, mixed in together...i remember Pacino playing a blind man and for some reason i pictured Matthew Broderick as his assistant

I guess it depends on what your perspective is. I love to watch Rudy, especially with my son (now 13). It's a great movie about values like working hard to realize your dreams, teamwork and selflessness (Rudy getting pummeled in practice every day to get the starters ready to play). Maybe not the best movie about football, but one of the best about life. Unfortunately, my son has not yet learned one of the lessons taught by the movie (you need to have goals, and work hard to achieve them).

Sorry, 10 items is the limit in polls. Being the pollster, I picked my favorite 10. I've seen them all except North Dallas 40 which I included by reputation alone.

No more votes on football? The baseball thread really seems to be catching on.

I said Any Given Sunday, the acting and the way they potray the playing of the game is 2nd to none, I also like Varsity Blues, I've seen North Dallas 40 and Nick Nolte just isn't very convincing as a football player.

I'm surprised to see no votes for Brian's Song. We need more sensitive types on this forum.

To a Domer, a blue RX-8 with gold brake calipers (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12365) shows both good taste and school spirit. To a Domer, Knute Rockne, All American (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/6301973496.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) is a better football movie than any of those listed above - including even Rudy. To a Domer, a day driving on the Indiana Toll Road on a Fall day is a major reason to buy an RX-8.
