I chose Major League - I'm not a fan of baseball, I like how goofy this movie makes it look

Bull Durham- Kevin Costner was incredible in that movie - It was about baseball?? LOL

The Natural should run away with this one, though the only bad movie on the list is the Babe. I didn't think it was possible to make a bad movie about baseball, but that one proved me wrong. Hell, II even liked Cobb.

Once again little guy, I'm typing, not talking. By the way you may want to change that to actually make sense. Perhaps switch the can to may, actually spell the word you, and add a word or two...

Major League all the way...as for an authentic baseball movie, i can't think of one i've seen that i actually enjoyed...i think baseball is a boring sport to watch, much more fun to play

I have told many people this..

Baseball is only interesting to people who really know the game.

Unless you know the beauty of using a push bunt to move a runner, or to change a pitcher to get a better matchup, then the game will be fairly boring.

It gets even better when you have ideas how to pitch to guys. then you really get into pitch placement and pitch selection.

Baseball:
a very complicated game with a lot of nuances and desicion that can always be second guessed.

there is a great quote by Earl Weaver that I love:

"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the goddamn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."

ROFL!

BTW, This was tough - The Natural and Field of Dreams are both fantastic movies, but I gave the nod to the Natural - it's one of those movies that gives me goosebumps every time I see Roy knock the lights out to win the pennant. Randy Newman did a great job with the score in that movie.

When you have 40,000 at a game I'd bet only 5000 or so really understand the nuance. The others know who has the lead or that your superstar is at bat, and the rest escapes them. But they enjoy it nevertheless.

As for baseball movies, I can't think of a one where you really need to know baseball to thoroughly enjoy the movie. I voted for Field of Dreams; it sends chills up my spine. Yet nary a game is played in the movie; only scrimmage (unless you count when Coster took James Earl Jones to the stadium, and the game itself was irrelevant to the plot.)

Favorite line: Batter: "Hey ump, how about a warning?" (after almost getting hit by a pitch.)

Ump: "Ok. Watch that you don't get killed!"

I know all that stuff (played baseball as a kid, and my brother was a pitcher, so I picked some of that up too).

Baseball is boring to me.

Hey, Field of Dreams is on right now on the Superstation. Joe Jackson just showed up, and Ray Cancella is pitching to him.

BTW, this movie is totally not about baseball. It's about faith, trust and following your dreams. Baseball is just an excuse to talk about that stuff.

The Natural is my pick. The only part I didn't like was when he got shot, because there is little explanation in the movie.

I never read the book, but from what I've been told, the woman is more portrayed as a psychotic, and the reader is left wondering why Roy is spending time with her. Also, in the movie, Roy refuses to sell out to the owner of the Knights. In the book, he does sell out.

Now I'll rant a little...
I would have liked it better with the author's original ending. I hate that in today's market the protagonist most always comes out on top, or his/her virtue surpasses all levels of corruption/desire.
I could keep going, but I'll stop there...

I vote for The Rookie, as it is the only baseball movie I've seen. I don't understand or like baseball at all so my opinion is not important. Reminds me of a game called rounders that little girls play in England...

My British friend loves baseball, but hates football. I hate soccer, but like rugby.

I like the sleeper movie "For Love Of The Game" with Kevin Costner/Kelly Preston and not listed as a choice. Hall of Famer Billy Chapel is at the middle-aged sunset of his career, his arm is shot to hell, GF left him for Paris, and he's being put out to pasture in the Minors after his last major league appearance. Might as well throw a perfect game at Yankee Stadium without realizing it until the end and go out in style.
;)

Costner gets a bad rap, but he does his baseball movies very well.

I didn't want to be sexist, so I kept the Madonna movie, and I really think Sandlot and the others are good but they're not coming in too high in the poll. I probably shoulda bumped The Babe for Love of the Game.

I'm really surprised by the results so far. I thought Field of Dreams would be at or near the top. That movie still sends chills up my spine. My personal opinion, which obviously is in the minority, is that The Natural was just slow and boring. Earlier comments about how the movie differed from the book also explained confusion about that mystery woman. I guess the producers thought changing her role would make the movie more appealing. I don't think it did.
