Got distracted whilst driving along with my 9yo and looked up to see a parked car in fromt of me. Rather than braking, I hit the accelerator and swerved. As I was in 2nd gear the car took off and I hit a parked X5 on the other side of the road.

It's all a blur at the moment. Can't figure out why I reacted the way I did. Tommy got out unscathed and I have a shoulder and neck problem at the moment.

Sorry to hear that Greg.

Glad Tommy is ok and hopefully you'll come good. Follow doctors orders mate but if my experience of shoulder injuries in older (i.e. over 40) people is any guide, don't let it freeze on you with inactivity.

And don't beat yourself up about it. We all like to think we'll handle an emergency perfectly but shit does happen and the main thing is you're both still walking and talking...

As for your 8, she's with all the other egg plants in the sky now talking about shades of purple...

That sucks man, I really feel for you. Like the others said, i'm glad that no1 was seriously hurt. What about the x5? where did you hit it and was it also a total write off...?

Shit Greg thats Nasty! Glad everyone is ok. Dont waste cycles trying to figure out why you did what you did. Everyone will tell you that they would act a certain way, but when it comes down to it, you will NEVER know until you are in that position.

All the best mate.

Cheers

Andrew

Thanks Dave.

Spot on. I keep thinking about how much worse it could have been and thank my lucky stars Tommy wasn't hurt.

Love the "shades of purple" quote. :hahano:

I hit it around the front wheel. Not sure how much damage I did to it as it was dark. It also got towed. I was also more concerned about Tommy at the time so didn't pay much attention to it..

Bugger.

I came close to a nasty on my way out of Brisbane the other night due to a car broken down on the motorway.
My reaction was the same as yours, I changed lanes and gunned it to give the guy next to me room to move. He stopped but the car behind him barely slowed.

Maybe it is the car but there always seems to be a way to drive around something rather than stop despite the brilliant brakes.

Thanks Andrew.

Have finally realised I'll never work out why I reacted that way so I have stopped kicking myself.

Sorry to hear this news. Good to see your son is Ok. It was an instinctive reaction on your part to prevent an accident so don't beat yourself up about it.

The "aubergine machine" is for sale on ebay for $16K.

My panel beater got to $25K in parts alone without anything for labour or mechanicals. The car is worth $35K.

Do the math - it doesn't work. Someone is going to do their nuts!
