Yah... he shouldn't have to pay it for the back tickets, just the ones issued on the days the officers followed him though. Hopefully he doesn't get hit with the full $6k.

ah man, this guy is f00ked.

In this case, officers sat outside Vontesmar's home and watched him drive to work. "We watched him four different times put the monkey mask on and put the giraffe-style mask on," Officer Dave Porter said. "Based on surveillance, we were positive that Vontesmar was the driver."

Love it . Here speed camera tickets go with the car so the owner has to pay them . How is he getting away with it ?

here in the States, the driver typically has to be identified in order to be ticketed. Usually they send you the ticket and if it's not you, then you have to tell them who was driving your vehicle. (as it's assumed you would obviously KNOW who was in posession of your car, otherwise you'd have reported it stolen)

yea, he'll get screwed no matter what because he was purposely using it to avoid the ticket. Unless that guy works at little kid birthday parties as a monkey boy, he might get to visit a PMITA fun place.

Over here in AZ you have to actually sign and mail the ticket back.
But! Signing it is an admission of guilt. Goes against your 5th Amendment rights. Self incrimination and all.
So we just throw them away. Also they have to have a clear pic of your face to compare it to your Drivers license.
If you don't sign it and mail it back they have 60 days to find you and serve you a summons. And it does not show up in the police data base that you "might" have a ticket outstanding.
So the Po Po's do nothing about it should you get pulled over. So we smart folks do not respond and just throw the ticket away.
They loose.

The article claims that they stake out the gross repeat offenders though like this guy.

Clever, but that man is not too bright. Just hope for his sake he doesn't get charged with something.

Should be able to get out of it if he is smart. They went to his house and waited for him. Thats entrapment.

I'm not too surprised they are going after people with large amounts of tickets. As the article stated that only about 24% of people were actually paying the tickets. IIRC, the city/state is still charged a fee by Redflex even if the ticket doesn't lead to a conviction.

The statistics regarding the overall effects of the speed cameras are not only inflated but they don't publish information about other accident changes or what is occuring before or after the cameras. They simply look at data AT the camera location since it's the only place they can get it.

While there might have been a 10 to 20 percent reduction in fatal crashes the amount of minor to moderate property damage crashes (fender benders) has greatly increased. There are at least 15 to 20 accidents a day in Phoenix during rush hour and that's probably a very low number still.

People are simply more aware of their surroundings at the speed cameras. Otherwise everywhere else people are talking on phones, messing with the radio, eating food, doing makeup, shaving or any other 100 things instead of paying attention to their driving.

It's sad that DPS continues to put out false information claiming the cameras are 100% responsible for fewer crashes. The data they cite was obtained last year when gas was $4.50 a gallon in Phoenix and Americans were driving 1 BILLION fewer miles.

It's a pure money maker by turning normal citizens into criminals.

How is that entrapment? He was not induced or persuaded to commit a crime he hadn't intended on doing. The police simply followed him to see who was driving his car through the red lights since he claims it was not him; they were doing their jobs by investigating, and if he were innocent, doing him a favor to see who was driving his car. If he were guilty, then he should own up to his wrong doings.

in NYC we don't have speed cams, but Red Light cams and they just send the ticket to the registered owner, in their name. No points, just fine.

These were speed cameras, not red light cameras. There may be something iffy about trailing him that a lawyer could poke at but as a citizen, I doubt there's much they can do about it.

They have them around, I have seen them in 2 or 3 locations. The two I see the most is in Montgomery Village. They have one on Main Street and one on route 108 infront of a middle school.

As for the guy, I give him props for trying to fight the system. But he took it a little too far with 37. Oh well, its funny as shit and provides us great entertainment!
